My favorite  is a Seiko automatic.

If you have a favorite which is it and why?

Omega Speedy Pro. I know it's hackneyed, but I love the look. I will buy it for myself as a gift if I meet my finance/saving KPIs for this year (yes, I set myself KPIs).

I like my Mi Band 3. I use it as a watch and for notification. I have audio notification turned off on my phone, and the Band's vibration notification tells me to check my phone. It's a fitness tracker with heart rate monitor, but I have those turned off, last about a month betwen recharges. It's like 30 bucks at Amazon.

My DH is kind, generous and likes nice things.  When we were newly engaged he figured I needed a nice watch to match my professional career and bought me an Omega Seamaster for my birthday.  Hmm.  While a few months prior I would have just thought it was a lovely gift, we were now headed down the road of combined finances and my mindset shifted.  It now seemed a ridiculous expense.  I thanked him and we sat down for chat about finances and priorities.  He now buys me long underwear and socks for my birthday and I am much happier.

But it is a lovely watch.  20 years later it is as nice as the day he bought it.

I am in the market for a new watch since mine died recently.  I think i paid $200 or something for it 25 years ago at service merchandise.

I was looking at the seiko automatics but some of the reviews i read indicated that they dont keep time very well and need to be adjusted every couple of days.   What has your experience been?

I wear my Seiko only when I have an appointment, take a trip, or am away from home  for the whole day.

This seldom occurs (~10X per year) so I haven't worn the watch enough to determine how well it keeps time over the long term.

Here's my Seiko.

I just have the Timex Weekender with a leather strap. Dressy enough to wear to work but also doesn't look out of place with jeans and a tshirt.

Thanks to the other thread talking about watches, I remembered that I actually own one.

It's a Tissot that I got as a graduation gift, but in my profession, watches aren't allowed, so the battery has been dead for years and it's so tiny with such a long face and such teensy-tiny hands that's it's virtually impossible to actually tell time on it. I could tell you it's "20 after something, but I have no confidence beyond that as to what time it is", so even when it is running, it's basically useless as a timepiece, but a lovely piece of jewelry.

It cost about $650, and I think the last time I wore it was for a job interview. It's very pretty though.

A Garmin training watch. It can show what time it is, it has GPS tracking my heart rate when training, the step frequency when running, distribution between left and right food contact time, how much I oscillate up and down during a run, time per kilometer, distance, steps per day and probably a few other things. The corresponding app is good to keep track of workout sessions and plot everything on Google maps. Needs charging about once every week. Bought it for 65 bucks on our Craigslist.

Not really. I'm gently misted with people's blood all day. No jewelry/watches, no artificial nails, etc, it's pretty basic infection control for a lot of medical environments.

Any Casio G-Shock. Simple, does it's job, reliably, at a low-cost.

Can't have smartwatches in my work environment. I wouldn't wear one outside work, I value my privacy.

For a while, I had two matching Black/Gold and Silver/Blue Fossil Twist watches. I had gotten a $100 VISA gift card from a credit card deal, but through a mix-up, got an extra gift card, and was debating between the two color schemes. So I got both! (They were around $100.) But... fast forward at least a decade, and I never wore either any more, and they have been sold.

For my 35th birthday, I bought myself a Citizen Eco Drive Perpetual for about $245, and that was the watch I wore the most over the next five years, and I still love it and have it on standby.

But for my 40th birthday, my wife bought me a Fossil Explorist Q HR (4th generation) smart watch, and that's the watch I've worn just shy of every day since then! Of course, it's not as super old-school cool as a proper mechanical watch, but I've found several digital faces that I really like, and occasionally I even use the other features ;) It is useful for information when I ride bike, tracking heart rate, speed, elevation and distance!

I currently wear an Apple watch, series 1.

When it worked, it was great, but now Siri doesn't work on it. Otherwise, it's still serviceable, and I'll likely wear it until the proverbial wheels fall off.

Casio F-91W, $10

Perfectly functioning watch that does all the watchy things I need. I actually meant to get the Casio W800HA but screwed up on Amazon after I pulled the trigger on the wrong tab lol. Oh well, saved myself $10. Would've been nice to have that indiglo though.

I like Seikos but I don't own one.  I have a g-shock and a citizen ecodrive, but mostly I wear a cheap casio that's tiny so it stays out of my way at work and if I tear it apart one day, it's only $15.

I’ve had a Skagen for about 11 years that I love. I think it was $125.  Pretty. Timeless.  Keeps time.  Can’t really ask for more than that.

On the other hand*, I have a Rolex I was gifted that I almost never wear.  It’s really flashy and I feel weird walking around with several thousand dollars on my wrist.  So it mostly sits in a box.

*pun not intended, but on notice, appreciated :)

At one time in my life, I was a clown watch collector who would not have hesitated to splurge on a vintage Omega or Rolex or a $5K diving watch. Once in a while, I wonder what I was thinking...I still have a few quality pieces sitting in a cardboard box. I keep a nice Breitling SuperOcean dive watch for my daughter who is a diving instructor. The others have no sentimental value but I have not taken the time to do something about them. The only one I keep handy is a beautiful 1954 Omega Seamaster I inherited from my grandfather that I will give to my oldest son when the time comes.
