DJs at EDM festivals, what are they doing on stage?
« on: March 25, 2017, 05:54:26 PM »
I am watching a livestream of an EDM festival and I see a DJ bouncing around and I can't figure out what they could possibly be doing besides hitting a play button and pretending to do some complex stuff.  So what's the deal are they just acting or do they actually do something up there?

Back in the Vinyl days, it did take a bit of skill to do beat-matching to segue the tunes into each other. Still does, a bit. And they have to decide what tunes to play.

On the other hand... this thread reminds me of this:

Superstar DJ is my new side gig.

I went to Maskarave '93 and I thought the music was great, but to this day I still don't know if it was or if I only thought it was, if you know what I mean.  The afterparty went to 11am.

the best DJs like Armin Van Buuren live mixes and goes off the crowds reaction. He has a youtube demonstration on all that goes into it. There are djs that have pre recorded sets.
