Climbing finger minor injury
« on: March 09, 2014, 09:07:49 AM »
Morning. I'm hoping there are climbers on this forum or even some physiotherapists. Recently I've been climbing (bouldering) 3 or 4 times a week and have been feeling a minor discomfort with 2 of my fingers on the left hand, nothing major, but still something abnormal. It can bring a slight pain when trying to push something with those fingers, say you push something with the top section of your fingers by opening your hand. Any idea what the issue could be and any recommendations on treatment (i.e.: ice, stretching...)?

Thank you

Rub some dirt on it and get out there.

Sounds like an overuse injury.  Rest, ice, anti-inflammatories.  Let it mend and then work on strengthening your hands.

And I am not a climber, but this sort of thing is common in the spring when people start playing outside after a winter of inactivity.

Thanks for the tips, guess I'll take it easy for some time.

I'm a climber! I agree to rest it for a few days, but if you overworked it you might have tendonitis. See a doctor if it doesn't get better. Prognosis would be no climbing for a while (month or two maybe?) while the tendons recover. Just Google for it and you'll probably learn more.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
