Car is dead. All humans OK
« on: June 22, 2023, 07:46:34 PM »
So we had big storms in Houston last night.  I was coming back from my father's place and didn't know stoplights were out.  Was in middle lane.  Car that was stopped in left lane at light pulled forward.  And the sun was shining into the dead light so it "looked" green.  Was not.  I t-boned an expedition making a left.  Square in the rear tire.  There car looks repairable.   Mine not so much.

No major injuries to either party.  I have some bruises.  Airbag did its job.

That's quite a vehicle to hit. Glad it worked out for the soft occupants.

The costs of living in a car-dependent country include not only the costs of owning and operating a vehicle, but also the occasional accident. Hope you can get out for less than $5k, but I doubt it.

If you like to "drive it forever" a happy accident can be a good excuse to finally replace an old vehicle at insurer expense!

Be safe.

Like my uncle told me when I wrecked as a teenager..."Cars can be replaced, people cannot"   Glad everyone is ok.

Found three bruises.  Wrist (airbag?), left leg (?), and midsection (where seat belt grabbed me).  Some mild soreness to shoulders and neck.  Took Ibuprofen.

If you don't mind me asking - what were you driving?

So scary!  Glad you and all the other people are okay. I had one bad accident thirty years ago and it took me over two years to get the nerve to drive again.

I'm glad you're ok!

If you don't mind me asking, what are you going to replace the car with?

My father is on the way to pick me up for lunch and to look at a 2007 Toyota Solara 183k miles. Private seller asking $4,000.  That is apparently firm as lots of people came from the Craigslist ad but they all tried to lowball and he stood firm.  I'll pay cash tomorrow Monday after getting it insured if it checks out mechanically.

Awesome!

I had a cavalier years ago (1998) and wound up with a 2007 Toyota Yaris.

The Solara you are looking at sounds like an excellent buy, especially in today's used vehicle market.

Good luck - I hope the inspection goes well for you. :)

I bought the car.  have low tire pressure indicators I can't clear.  THink it is a bad sensor.

All humans in decent health.  Thought it was expedition.  Accident report says Dodge Durango, a similar sized monster vehicle.

I have texted the other party and encouraged them to go to doctor if need and file against my insurance.  Between max liability and umbrella policy, I have 1.5Million in coverage...

Turns out my tire pressure thing is something that has to have the sensor manually reset.  I have d/l the owner's manual (not in glove box!) and followed the instructions.  Have to wait 20 minutes now.
