Aus census #fail
« on: August 09, 2016, 03:06:52 PM »
So like millions of other sheep I tried to do the census last night and was met with a blank web page.

This morning we learn that hackers managed to get in after the 4th attack and the Bureau of Statistics took the decision to shut the site down.

How do you feel? Whilst I've always been hesitant to hand over personal details online, it's not like we really have a choice in this day and age.

I tried a number of times yesterday to no avail from about 10am onwards as I was out to the Opera last night and wanted to get it done before going.  I didn't know it was because of hackers.

I think I will ask for a paper census this time.  That might make it a tad harder for them to steal my data at least for the next 5 years.

Happy that they shut it down after several attacks. They obviously take keeping the data safe seriously.

Report is the hack was successful.  So yes, it's nice they took it down but it shows they can't keep the data secure.

Which of course anyone who knows anything about computers already knew.

I don't think there will ever be another census to be honest. No one will have faith in it.

It's not like they can fine half the country for not doing it. No Government in their right mind would piss off that many voters. Except maybe the current mob :D

Wasn't it just a DDoS?
