 - 75% of voters think Obama is
 - About 3x as many think Obama is than Bush

One can have an opinion, but it would be silly to try to state it as fact.  Many people have erroneous opinions.  People are gullible, easily swayed, and prone to confirmation bias.

Indeed.  In order to make it to that level in the current system, you have to really only care about yourself, which thereby makes you unqualified for the job.  So, any person that becomes President cannot be fit for the job.

Goes all the way back to Plato's metaphor regarding the ship of state.  The person best able to steer the ship is the one least able to get elected.  And the person most likely to win is not the person best able to lead. 

Of course his solution was to instill philosopher-kings.  But then that's not a Democracy.  Democracy is a terrible system for electing leaders.  Only problem is that every other system is worse.
