Any Other NBA fans on Here?
« on: March 01, 2015, 02:12:11 AM »
Just curious whether there are any other NBA fans on this site.  More specifically, by chance any other Washington Bullets (more commonly referred to as a name that rhymes with "Lizards" that I refuse to utter or write) fans?

I gotta say that I've felt like somewhat of a mutant up until I discovered this site and the www.bulletsforever.com site relatively recently.  Just wonder if there's any crossover.

The NBA screwed my city over, so no. Not a fan.

Sorry--couldn't help it.  From one of my favorite movies.

I am a fan of the Golden State Warriors!  My favorite player is Steph Curry.

And also I watch almost all of the Top 10 plays and highlights.  I might catch a game or two in the week.

The NBA is cool, sometimes can be very entertaining!

Big Charlotte Hornets fan here (especially now that they got the name back).  I grew up watching college basketball a lot, but I now find it painful to watch after mostly following the NBA for the last few years.

NBA League Pass is one of my splurge expenses, and I spend way too much time listening to podcasts and reading Grantland.

The Lakers are my hometown team. I'm a fan of theirs, but a fan more-so of the NBA as a whole. The Spurs' play in the last Finals was a thing a beauty.

Jon_Snow, are you talking about Seattle?

We used to go to Spurs games frequently.  My wife isn't from the USA, but as part of her "Murricanization" process, I took her to see real 'Murrican sports.  She actually likes Football and basketball, tolerates hockey, hates baseball (well, 3 our of 4 ain't bad).

However, since the advent of big screen TVs, I generally prefer to watch with friends or at home.  The view is better, the seats more comfortable, and the beer and nachos are cheaper.

But even though I only go to games once or twice a year now, I'm still a big fan.

I'll be glad to see Tim Duncan get his sixth Title this year.

Sorry, Golden State guy- you know when it comes to crunch time, GS will do what GS always does and the Spurs will do what the Spurs do.

But take heart, Duncan will retire in 4 or 5 years, and Curry will still be young when he does.
:)

Fan here as well. Big Kobe Bryant fan. Have been following the Lakers for years. Here recently, I've found myself tuning in whenever I get a chance to see Russel Westbrook, Blake Griffin, or Andrew Wiggins play. NCAA basketball is really my bread and butter. There's not anything in sports more exciting to watch than VCU's brand of basketball.

Hey, he could mean Buffalo. Or Vancouver. Or Baltimore. Or Kansas City.

Damn, basketball teams sure move a lot.

Not sure how I didn't see this thread before.  Huge NBA/basketball fan here.  My favourite team is anyone the Lakers are playing.  Also like the Raptors, but they've really lost their groove since the All Star break.

Who is everyone thinking for the NBA Finals this year?

GSW vs Cleveland wouldn't surprise me.  No way Atlanta gets to the finals.

Fun podcast of JJ Redick and Adonal Foyle talking largely about NBA players' finances. Adonal might not be Mustachian, but he definitely has his stuff together.

It's weird, I'm a DIEHARD NCAA bball fan, have been since I was a kid watching the UCONN Huskies (men and women) but I don't give a rip about the NBA.  I've tried, but can't.  Let's just say this week is about the biggest sports week of my life, given Monday night, and now the Masters this weekend.  ;)

Like hockey seats on the glass, nba seats on the floor or up to 10 rows up are simply a different way to experience a game. They athletes are so big, so powerful, so fast.

On tv....ehhhh. Maybe a great hotly contested playoff game.

Spurs fan (and I married a San Antonio native, so this ain't a bandwagon thing) and a basketball fan generally.

I have given up on football in all forms and baseball remains fouled (ha!) by PE drugs but is still my favorite sport.

Nevertheless, basketball is, for me, just about the purest expression of athleticism and physical culture that exists in mainstream sports. I would love for track or girevoy sport or some other fringe thing to become popular, but it isn't going to happen. Meantime, basketball is just a beautiful game to watch. Love it.

Big Spurs fan! That Bench! Also a Portland and a Seattle fan (we'll get a team again someday). Cheered for the Celtics when Pierce/Garnett/Allen played. And I was glad to see Dirk win at least one championship.

Never made it to a Sonics game but I did see Portland play a few times the last few years and a few times back in the late 90s.

Can't stand OKC...

Kawahi Leonard of the Spurs, just name NBA Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row, and earning ridiculous money ($16+ million per year- and a bargain at that), lives with his mom and his sister, drives a $1,250 car, and stresses out when he loses his coupon book for free chicken wings:

http://www.foxsports.com/nba/story/san-antonio-spurs-kawhi-leonard-1997-chevy-tahoe-hates-spotlight-star-031516

He's definitely a "Spurs guy," a perfect successor to Tim Duncan, who lets his play do the talking, not like the obnoxious, loud, arrogant, prima donnas/jerks that populate the rosters of most teams.

Though my favorite "cheap" Spur is Matt Bonner, an end of the bench guy at this point in his career, but a player who is legendary for his frugality.  From Wikipedia:

"During his tenure with the Toronto Raptors, he received the nickname the "Red Rocket" for his red hair and constant use of the public transit in Toronto, the Toronto Transit Commission, whose slogan is "Ride the Rocket."

Public Transit, lol.

He's gone upscale since then, he now drives a 2013 Chevy Impala (he was making in nearly $4 million per year when he bought it).

He's living the NBA lifestyle, yo.

Good thing he was frugal, because now as an aging bench player, he only makes a bit more than a million per year, barely enough to cover payments on an Impala.

I'll bet this dude banked more than 90% of his income and will be set for life when he retires, despite making less in a 12-year career than some bankrupt former 'ballas made in a year (Allen Iverson and the like).

Oh Allen Iverson....never got that ring. Speaking of broke NBA players, article is a bit dated
