Another COVID-19 casualty: RIP National League
« on: May 12, 2020, 07:22:39 AM »
Looks like MLB is finally moving on their long-standing desire to kill the National League and instate the DH. They, of course, say it's only "temporary", but if you believe that…

How about we share our favorite National League moments here in mourning?

One of mine is Noah Syndergaard's two-home-run game against the Dodgers in 2016. I'm not even a Mets fan, but i'm a huge Syndergaard fan. So great!

Opening Day. Being a Reds fan means lots and lots of losing seasons and disappointment. To the point of where I don't care too much about baseball. Big market clubs will continue to have the edge. When does football start? ( :

In 2004, a former girlfriend and I got SRO tickets at Wrigley field to watch a Cubs-Rockies game. The Rockies pitcher was really struggling, but Greg Maddux (for the cubs) was also having an uncharacteristically shaky day.

With the score tied 3-3 in the fifth, the Rockies pitcher leaned in and sent a Maddux breaking ball over the right field fence. He was so jacked from this, that he came in the next inning and struck out the side.

It was only ten years later that I learned that this was the only time Maddux ever surrendered a homerun to an opposing pitcher.

As far as the former girlfriend, well, she wasn't interested in getting back together.

My Brewers beating the Cubs at Wrigley in game 163 in 2018.  So, so sweet.

I could go on and on about how I HATE the DH, so I'll just stop now.

2003 NLCS, Game 7. Kerry Wood hits a 2-run homer to tie the game 3-3 at Wrigley Field.  For a second, just one second, I thought the curse was over. I was right, 13 years later.

Fun fact - Kerry Wood also pitched statistically the greatest game in MLB history five years earlier.

I'm on a work computer, so I cannot link to it, but Charlotte Sportswriter Joe Posnanski is doing a series of the 60 greatest baseball moments. He wrote up that Kerry Wood game last week.

You may have to get behind "The Athletic" paywall to read it. If you care about sports and good writing, you will enjoy these.
