Accountant help please: how much would you charge for this?

Need a ball park figure to complete tax exempt status for small non-profit.

A small organization I belong to is dying, but we have one large event we've committed to helping with in 2017. We are registered with the State of MO as a NonProfit corporation.

Many years ago we had tax exempt status with the state and the IRS, but officers of the club let that lapse, likely due to carelessness.

At this point we need to regain our tax exempt status in order to save about $2000 in contracts for the event taking place in 2017.

I've already spent 16 hours reviewing what I need to do to make this happen, having no experience with this. I pretty much have the documentation together for our application for exemption of State sales tax, but I find that application requires IRS exempt status which we had at one time and lost because we didn't keep up with the registration process.

As I skim IRS form 1023 or 1024 (not sure which one we need) it seems we would have to pay a fee of $400 to reinstate our IRS exemption as well as completing yet more forms and documents.

I am discouraged and tired of dealing with this.

I would like to know how much an accountant would charge to complete this process, with price including this $400 fee.

Any ideas?

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
