A merciful break in the heat
« on: August 17, 2012, 03:21:01 PM »
I don't know how your summers are going, but the next upcoming week is the first straight week we haven't had disgustingly hot weather since late February. In fact, highs are predicted to be below historical averages for the whole week! Compare that to July, which was pretty consistently 8 degrees above the average and never had nights below about 75.

About time!

I'm sure many feel the same way.

July heat set a record in 49 of the 50 states (only Washington didn't).

I thought July and August haven't been too bad, we only hit 110+ once or twice.. Mostly been low to mid 100s, which is easily bearable.  It's the 112-115+ that's rough, and we just haven't had that much this year.  But I am quite acclimated to the heat.  I use A/C in the car, but rarely at home.

We only finally got hot last week. Last summer we hardly had a real heatwave.

Of course everyone I know is just DYING of heat stroke when we hit 90+. Last weekend we installed a pre-hung door and did some painting. No AC (by choice). Got as hot as 92 in the house, so I made some sun tea and ate some otterpops. All the neighbors hid out in their homes with AC on and shades drawn.

Charlotte has been miserably hot and humid this summer, but we are cooling down as well.  I actually needed long-sleeves after the sun went down last night!  The one big difference from other recent summers is we are NOT having drought in this area.  Lots of frequent heavy thunderstorms/showers on most evenings keep it steamy, but no water restrictionsthis year! I am looking forward to slightly cooler weather....July and August are the two worst months for outdoor activity around here... getting cabin fever you know?!

We're having a short heatwave here in the South East of England. It is currently 30 degrees C (86 Fahrenheit) which might sound quite pleasant to some of you but is several degrees higher than we are used to. It's also rather humid.

It was hotter than normal in SE Wisconsin from mid June through July, but it wasn't as uncomfortable, because it was so dry. In fact, the biggest problem we had this year was lack of rain. It rained a whole of 3 times between the end of May and the first week of August. Then we took a a trip for 11 days to visit family and friends and it rained almost every day we were gone. We came home to a very happy garden.

Another reason the Denver area is a great choice. It rarely gets hot, and while it gets nippy in the winter, it's rarely extreme.  This summer temps were in the low 100F range a few times.  A rarity. Lots of houses don't have A/C because it's just not needed.

Awesome, was going to comment that it feels just fine up here in Washington. :)

That article was a source of great teasing for my parents.  (I grew up 18 years near Seattle, and now live in the Sun Belt after college in California, so I take every opportunity to tease my family about the weather).

:D

Though from what I heard, you had a pleasant summer.

Totally. July experienced warm heat, but nowhere near record breaking temps. Was just right in my book...
