Title: The MMM readers' blogroll

This is the old MMM blogroll. You can find the updated blogroll here (http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/mustachianism-around-the-web/the-mmm-readers'-blogroll-(reloaded)/).

Hey thanks for the inclusion! :) From a blogger perspective, the MMM readers are like solid GOLD. I am blessed with a wonderful readership, but I have never seen such community and sub-threading in a blog as you get in the MMM comments and these forums, and I'm always happy when a MMM reader stops by my own little chunk of the interwebs to say hello.

Gotta echo what Erica said above, she took the words right out of my mouth. Thanks for putting my humble little blog on the list. Now I feel obligated to write an update!

Erica, I was web surfing the other day and one link led to another led to another led to this post of yours:

http://www.nwedible.com/2012/10/dear-busy-person-an-open-letter-to-you.html

It was just what I needed to read at this point in my life, and I thank you for it!  It is definitely "solid gold" and the only reason I hadn't commented on it yet is because I was still mulling it over.

Thanks PJ. :) It was a heckova couple of months there for awhile. That post was sort of my public "note to self: keep the important things in perspective" reminder. I'm glad it resonated with people.

Thanks for the link there, Grant!

Now I feel bad for not getting unmoored enough from work to finish the four articles that I haven't hit publish on yet. Have to try and fix that for you folks the next couple days. :)

I enjoy my work, but I do have to admit... it's hard to tell people "no" when you're doing work for HaShem and His ministries. Your article still struck a chord with me, Erica. Thank you.

How exciting, I got first mention!
First the honorable MMM himself puts a direct link to one of my posts right inside of his "What do you mean you don't have a bike" post - which alone has accounted for more of my traffic than every other source combined and helped to propel it to within the top few google results for "how to buy a bike on craigsilst"
And now this!

And by sheer coincidence, I had just gone back to some old forum threads and extracted a bunch of my comments and consolidated them into a series of posts for my blog, so I've got a MMM forums theme going for the rest of the week.

On a separate note, the following blog is not mine: http://ecomodder.com/blog/
However, I am a regular contributor (I wrote 7 of the last 10 posts), and of course, no matter who is writing it, the entire theme of the website fits into the concept of mustachianism well: when/if you are going to drive a car, drive it as efficiently as possible, to maximize your utility for minimal fuel.

My husband (Herr Handlebar) and I just started a blog about becoming Mustachian: http://becomingmustachian.habiano.com (http://becomingmustachian.habiano.com). We've recently shifted from spending everything we earned to saving 78% of our income last month! I'm hoping that our blog might be helpful to others who are just getting started as well.

There are only about 10 posts so far, but I am always motivated to write another one when I see more people visiting and commenting. :)

My blog isn't so heavily Mustachian-focused as a lot of the great ones mentioned here, but I'm hoping it becomes a nice mix of how my wife and I live reasonably, the projects we tackle at home, and investment strategy. My decision to move home was heavily influenced by reading MMM's post on the true cost of commuting and constant optimism about the ease of making money, even in retirement. We'll see how my blog evolves as readership influences the direction.

Hi, I vote to have Lacking Ambition on the list.  He started with nothing and no college degree and retired at 28 (?) after about 5 years of working.  His plan revolved around renting and rehabbing properties and being frugal.  He also got a law degree during that time just for fun -- he never bothered to actually get a job with it becuase he was already mostly retired at that point.  I also think his philosophy of work, and time, and money is interesting.

Here is a good starting post.  But I suggest going through the archives from the beginning.

Hi, I vote to have Lacking Ambition on the list.

Lacking Ambition is one of my favorite blogs, have read every post (most more than once) and is probably second favorite PF/FI blogger after MMM.  But (and correct me if I'm wrong, and I hope I am) I don't think he qualifies for this list.  If I were making a list of good FI blogs, he'd be near the top though.

Post by: schof on January 05, 2013, 02:51:26 PM
I'm blogging about my financial education on schof.org. I've compiled a pretty Mustachian set of financial steps to success here: http://schof.org/2012/12/29/a-financial-roadmap/ . While I'm not currently living a fully Mustachio'd life, the blog is about my progress, and I started in a pretty un-Mustachian state.

You can check out my entire series of financial blog posts here: http://schof.org/category/financial-competence/

I'm currently doing a chapter-by-chapter review of Bernstein's "Investor's Manifesto" and plan to do the same for "The Intelligent Asset Allocator" and "A Random Walk Down Wall Street." I welcome anyone pointing out anything I got wrong or right.

Arebelspy's right, it's for readers. Maybe you could email MMM and ask if he's considered listing Lacking Ambition on his blogroll, or maybe inviting him for a guest post.

List updated.

Nice list.

I've been absent in these parts for awhile (academic projects, major emergency home repairs, and having a newborn provided ample distraction), but my wife and I maintain a blog, Real Sustainable Habits (http://www.realsustainablehabits.com). It's mostly a recipe blog, but there's some posts about money-saving, fitness, and positive mental habits, as well.

I believe Mad Fientist is also a MMM reader and a member of the forums. http://www.madfientist.com/

I'd like it to update in google reader, but it doesn't like to do that.

No problem! Thanks for adding it.

I guess saying our major home repairs were an "emergency" might have left the wrong impression. We had to fix structural damage and replace damaged windows in the front bay before the baby and the coldest days arrived. These were urgent, somewhat unexpected issues, but not the result of an accident or anything. It cost us $5,000 and was a quite time-consuming job, unfortunately, but we saved $3,500 by my helping the contractor repair the structural damage and by doing most of the other work myself.

Other than that, things are real well. Adjusting to parenthood has been a blast (a sleep-deprived blast, but a blast nonetheless).

While he doesn't post in the forums, the Mad FIentist is a great guy who blogs about financial independence at his eponymous blog (http://www.madfientist.com/) and podcast -- he even interviewed MMM himself (http://www.madfientist.com/mr-money-mustache-interview/)!

Grant, thanks a lot for the kind words and for including me on your list!  I'm looking forward to taking a look at some of these other blogs that I haven't checked out yet.

A Rebel Spy, are you still having problems with the feed?  I had no idea there were issues so sorry it's been such a pain in the ass for you.  Let me know if it's still an issue and I'll definitely look into it.  I use Feedburner, like a lot of other people do, but maybe I set something up incorrectly.  I'm currently in the process of helping another blogger on this list (JLCollinsNH) migrate his site so it'd be good to know if I set up something incorrectly on mine so that I don't do the same on his!

I believe I have received the last few posts correctly in Google Reader.

Not sure what the issue was, but it appears to have corrected itself.

Plus I subscribed to your podcast in iTunes, so I've at least got a backup plan on those.

Keep up the great blogging!  You are one of the few analytical FI blogs, and I really appreciate that (a lot are fluff and/or repeating the same old stuff - MMM, JLCollins, and you really break new ground, IMO).

Well, there's your problem.

Feedburner went through an awful series of glitches last fall.  It was so bad that neither the guy I was working with nor myself could get it set up correctly, and several dozen other FINCON personal-finance bloggers were having the same bunch of issues.

The lack of customer support led to wild rumors that Google had abandoned the project.

That's an amazing compliment to be included with MMM and JLCollins so thank you very much!  I sometimes worry my site is too analytical and my writing style too academic so it's great to hear that you enjoy the analytical nature of it.

I had heard some rumblings about Feedburner and the fact that Google may have abandoned it but I never heard anyone mention an adequate replacement.  Is there anything else out there that works better?

When I moved my blog I put a couple hours into troubleshooting my Feedburner setup and gave up.  (Later I learned that FB was having problems that weekend.)  Now I just recommend that my readers use RSS or, for those who prefer e-mail, a WordPress subscription plugin.  Or, heaven forbid, they could read the posts on the actual blog when they go up at 5 AM HST every Mon/Wed/Thu.

I don't send out e-mail newsletters or otherwise market to my reader list, though, so I don't have to solve a problem.

The FINCON threads on Feedburner problems found solutions with Feedblitz, Mailchimp, AWeber, or GetResponse.  I've never used any of these five so I can't vouch for their feature overlap, ease of use, or reliability.

This is a great list.  Thans so much for taking the effort to put this together.  I find myself following more and more blogs on here as the months pass by.  I've recently begun a new chapter in my life and have started blogging about it at www.bottlingmoonlight.com.  My husband and I recently made the decision to quit, put everything in storage, and move into a van with our toddler son to travel the country.  Principles of mustachianism have enabled us to be financially comfortable enough to do this, and we're putting into practice a number of the ideas MMM has discussed ($10 cell phone plan, high deductible health plan, etc.).  The blog will mostly be about our travels, but if anyone is interested in checking it out, I'd love to have you!

Cheers,

Dynamite.  I've been looking for bloggers traveling with kids.

It seems bloggers with kids and bloggers who travel don't overlap too much (I.e. most "traveling" are single or as a couple).

I'll be reading, and hoping you update regularly (and, if it's not too much to ask, keep track of your spending for me and share it!) and don't let it fall by the wayside, like most bloggers.  ;)

I try to keep this updated as I see new readers around the forum, but I inevitably miss some. If you'd like me to include your blog, let me know.

I think I'll also start featuring blogs periodically, so if you have a little blog that you solemnly swear you'll update regularly for a month, send me a PM and I'll consider featuring you!

I try to add one a day, but sometimes if I'm busy, and the next one que'd will be a bit of work, I may not get around to it for 4-5 days, or occasionally even a week

Title: Featured blog #1: The Military Guide to FI
Post by: grantmeaname on May 14, 2013, 02:09:30 PM
Alright everyone! I think we're officially in May now (I'm still in a bit of a daze from the end of finals), so it's probably about time I feature a blog.

The first featured blog is the Military Retirement and Financial Independence Blog (http://the-military-guide.com/), which is run by one of the forum's few financially independent members, Nords (https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/profile/?u=98). Nords surfs for a living in Hawaii, so he can fairly be said to be living the dream. When he's not out on the water, he writes blog posts two or three posts a week and has regular guest posters, and puts together the Military Guide to FI (http://www.impactpublications.com/militaryguidetofinancialindependenceandretirement.aspx) and related projects, then donates all the proceeds to charity.

The blog is a tremendous read for you if you're in the military and thinking about FI, of course, and he's always willing to dig deep into the reader mailbag (http://the-military-guide.com/2013/04/29/military-retirement-from-the-individual-ready-reserve/) to explore individual issues with military pensions and other retirement issues not seen in the civilian world. The blog's just as valuable if you're not interested in the military, though -- he discusses monetizing blogs and books (http://the-military-guide.com/2013/05/09/google-adsense-blog-tweaks/), the FI lifestyle (http://the-military-guide.com/2010/09/08/but-but-but-what-will-i-do-all-day/), new personal finance books (http://the-military-guide.com/2012/12/31/book-review-pocket-your-dollars/), humorous stories (http://the-military-guide.com/category/sea-stories/), and more. He also delves into interesting topics like the Long-Term Care Insurance industry (http://the-military-guide.com/2012/12/06/interview-whats-wrong-with-long-term-care-insurance/) and dealing with a genetic disease in the family (http://the-military-guide.com/2013/03/07/23andme-genetic-testing/) with incredible insight, personal anecdotes, and an ever-present sense of humor. All that is to say: if you don't follow Nords' blog, maybe you should!

I am also ex military (UK), but as I left after 10 year instead of 16, no early pension for me!
I will be writing some posts about FI planning whilst in the military - there are so many opportunities to save money and reduce your expenditure, but the young soldiers like to spend all their cash on cars, girls and booze.  And the Officers like to spend it all on girls and booze ;)

Title: Featured blog #2: The Flamboyant Introvert
Post by: grantmeaname on June 17, 2013, 03:30:35 PM
Hey everybody! I'm back with the second month of featured blogs. This month we've got a twofer! Longtime MMM reader Bakari (https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/profile/?u=412) blogs at his own site, Biodiesel Hauling (http://www.biodieselhauling.org/), as The Flamboyant Introvert (http://biodieselhauling.blogspot.com/). He also contributes to the multi-author, sometimes-active Ecomodder Blog (http://ecomodder.com/blog/), affiliated with the Ecomodder hypermiling community, which has been a little sleepy lately.

Bakari is known around the forums for his interest and insight in the economic, theoretical and moral questions about the way that we live our lives as Mustachians. There's plenty of that in the blog (from trickle-down economics (http://biodieselhauling.blogspot.com/2013/01/SupplySideEconomics.html), which I'm told is something like a multistory outhouse, to prostitution (http://biodieselhauling.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-oldest-profession.html) or even the evolution of consciousness (http://biod ieselhauling.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-last-big-question.html)). That's not to say the blog is never practical, either: there are great posts about cycling for transportation (http://biodieselhauling.blogspot.com/2012/06/please-ride-your-bike-in-street.html), buying bikes from craigslist (http://biodieselhauling.blogspot.com/2012/01/buying-bikes-from-craigslist.html), and motorcycling (http://biodieselhauling.blogspot.com/2012/02/chapter-iv-in-which-i-recommend-that.html), as well as stories of his life living full-time in an RV and spending at incredibly badass levels. My favorite post is his discussion of health (http://biodieselhauling.blogspot.com/2013/04/be-healthy-my-friend.html). Head over to the blog and check out its best of (http://biodieselhauling.blogspot.com/2013/01/what-to-read.html) page to find your favorite! If you can't get enough Bakari, be sure to tour his home through the magic of Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJc8973GURk).

To get in touch with Bakari with any questions, send him a PM here (https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/profile/?u=412). If you'd like to nominate your blog for consideration, and haven't done so already, PM me here (https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/profile/?u=528).

Title: Featured blog #3: Tech Meshugana
Post by: grantmeaname on August 12, 2013, 03:40:51 PM
Bakari was two months' worth of featured blogger because I was just that busy.  On to blogger number three!

I.P. Daley (https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/profile/?u=432) is the forum's resident telecom genius. You've probably seen him around, whether you recognize him from his under-renovation Communications and Technology Superguide (https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/share-your-badassity/communications-tech-isps-voip-cell), the "Continue the Blog Conversation" thread about iPhone plans (https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/continue-the-blog-conversation/our-new-$10-00-per-month-iphone-plans/), or his insightful comments from the morality threads that pop up every month or so in other sections of the forum. Away from the forum, though, Daley's even more active.

I.P. Daley's site, the Technical Meshugana (http://www.techmeshugana.com/), hosts a blog and oh so much more. There are posts about using technology cheaply - like how to save money with an iPhone (http://www.techmeshugana.com/2013/05/how-to-save-money-with-an-iphone/) - but also posts about using technology responsibly (http://www.techmeshugana.com/2013/06/technology-and-our-privacy/) and knowing when not to buy (http://www.techmeshugana.com/2013/01/are-iphones-worth-it/). If you find yourself questioning whether you get more out of your smartphone than the time and money you spend on it, Daley's site will help you untangle things and think more critically about your little electronic frenemy. If you're in over your head, he also takes  reader questions (http://www.techmeshugana.com/2013/07/ask-daley-communications-in-southwest-colorado/).

The Daley empire is wider than just a blog, though. There's the Frugality Superwiki, home to in-depth analyses of carriers such as this one (http://wiki.techmeshugana.com/wireless:carriers:h2owireless). There's the Shopping hut (http://astore.amazon.com/techmeshugana-20), a curated list of IP-approved products that allow you to support the site if you've found the advice useful. There's also a short-but-sweet Daley Recommended (http://www.techmeshugana.com/resources/recommendations/) page for service providers and a Delicious (https://delicious.com/ipdaley) feed with interesting articles about technology and the way we use it. If you're not following Daley somehow, you'd probably get a lot out of checking him out!

Thank you, Grant. :)

Edit: For those of you curious and interested, I've also done a podcast interview (http://www.techmeshugana.com/2013/07/cast-of-pods/) where I got to breathe into a microphone for two hours... and the most popular post on the entire site has nothing to do with technology, but feet (http://www.techmeshugana.com/2012/12/how-to-change-your-life-for-75-cents/) instead.

Dynamite.  I've been looking for bloggers traveling with kids.

It seems bloggers with kids and bloggers who travel don't overlap too much (I.e. most "traveling" are single or as a couple).

I have recently started blogging and I do have a "travel" category (that currently has zero posts!).  We have 3 kids (age 1, 7, and 8), and hope to continue to do ample traveling with them.

Our last trip we spent 4 days in Chicago all on foot or by subway/bus using google maps transit nav.  We ditched the 1 year old with grandma, so I'm not sure if I still have "traveling with kids" street cred.  Although that was definitely the right choice for maximum enjoyment on that particular trip.

I haven't tallied up the total yet, but I doubt we spent more than $150-200 for all four of us for 4 days including non-stop flights from the east coast, eating out lunch and dinner every day, and staying at a swanky hotel (albeit by the airport).  Credit card sign up bonuses picked up most of the tab for us, and buying transit cards on ebay for 90% off also helped.

I'd like to be included on your blog roll if possible: rootofgood.com

Thanks so much!

Hope you clearly put what was speculation versus fact (since so much is still up in the air), so I know what to follow up on later.  Excited to read it!

Here it is:
http://rootofgood.com/obamacare_makes_early_retirement_easier_and_more_secure/

I tried to treat the subject impartially without making speculations or commentary about the law or its implementation.  I wrote the piece to be generic enough so that anyone from the 50 states could get something out of the article without getting into state specific differences.  I may write one or more supplemental pieces to clarify or further explain parts based on feedback I receive.  In a couple of weeks we will see how the federal exchange is rolled out or whether there are delays, so it might be a while before I have a second post on obamacare and how early retirees (or freelancers/small business owners) can benefit.

I'll make a separate thread and post this article link there along with a brief synopsis.  I didn't see any similar recent threads in my searching here.

Edit to add:  Here is the MMM forums thread topic where we can discuss Obamacare and Early Retirement so we don't get further off topic here!  https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/welcome-to-the-forum/obamacare-makes-early-retirement-easier-and-more-secure/

Thanks.  I'm looking to be done about 2 years after it rolls out, so I'm curious how it will eventually affect everything.

Hopefully followup articles (i.e. "Heathcare for Early Retirees") come out in 2014/2015 that clarify everything, since so much is targeted towards working people.  Extra wrinkle for me: we'll be traveling a lot.  We've considered just getting health insurance while in the U.S. and going without on the road, as health care is pretty darn cheap everywhere else.  More research to be done.

And I'll stop posting on this, so thread can get back OT.  :)

Question for MMM Forum participants who are also bloggers: do you ever write a thoughtful reply here in the forums and then copy/paste it into a blog post, to share with your blog readers who aren't mustachians? I'm curious what the legality/ethics of that is. Maybe provide a link back to the reply here on the forum?

I haven't yet, but I could see doing that in the future.  Of course I imagine most bloggers would spend a little more time developing and refining a blog post than they would a forum post.  I also put interesting pics in my blog posts.

Ethics/legality?  If you write it you own the copyright to it, unless you explicitly turn over that copyright to the forum owner in the terms of service or elsewhere.  But I can't imagine a forum owner seeking legal redress over a content creator using his own work on his own site and also sharing it with the community here.

What he said, only I've actually done it and expanded it out a bit:
https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/share-your-badassity/communications-tech-isps-voip-cell/msg79034/#msg79034 (https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/share-your-badassity/communications-tech-isps-voip-cell/msg79034/#msg79034)

As long as the forum owner doesn't extend a blanket copyright grab to all content posted, there's nothing legally or ethically dubious about it in my book. There's the issue of situations where one might be responding to another, but again, so long as you get their permission for involvement with a repost, I find nothing wrong with it at all.

Fortunately, MMM has not done that here (the copyright grab)... but I'll tell you up front, if he did, I'd pull up the tent stakes and leave. I doubt he would though, as it'd open an ugly can of legal liability worms for himself in regard to content and moderation.

I do it all the time, although the blog post is usually longer and tailored to a military audience.  When thoughtful replies on a forum are transposed to a blog, they need to add in the questions and maybe the other issues raised by other posters (credit given where due).

Legality?  You mean, publishing my content wherever I want?  I wonder how long a forum would survive if the owner sent out C&Ds or DMCA takedowns.

I'd link from my blog to MMM's forum anytime, and from this forum to my blog.  The more I link my blog to big forums like this one, the better.

I think a few have been new - the making the train and table?  Maybe they're old though and I'm mistaken.

But the vast majority (92.85%, by my estimate of a new post every two weeks, and a repost daily otherwise) are reposts.

Google Reader used to only show new posts not the reposts (and at the time, I wanted to see the reposts, but Jacob told me he had no control over it) - now the RSS reader I use (Feedly) shows them all.  Wonder if there's any that will only show new ones like GR used to do.

I'd throw gocurrycracker.com on there.  They retired in their 30's and are traveling the world.  Good financial advice and good philosophy.  And especially interesting if you want to see how traveling the world can be about as cheap as living a conventional life in a permanent house.  They have pretty pictures too.

Pretired.org is another good one.  The guy is mostly retired or "pretired" as he calls it.  I think he's in his 30's or early 40's (he has a kid around age 2).

I'd throw gocurrycracker.com on there.  They retired in their 30's and are traveling the world.  Good financial advice and good philosophy.  And especially interesting if you want to see how traveling the world can be about as cheap as living a conventional life in a permanent house.  They have pretty pictures too.
Jeremy's been posting to Early-Retirement.org for a long time, and he & Winnie did a Waikiki meetup a few years ago as they were putting the final touches on their plans.  It's great to see the good guys win one.

Have we already pointed out http://www.johnnymoneyseed.com/ ?  Can't get much more badass than that.

I guess I missed Jeremy at ER Forum.  Just bumped the thread over at ER forums to say "hi".

+1 on Johnny Moneyseed.  He's on my shortlist of frequently visited blogs.

Nords, you want to organize a Badass Bloggers Conference in Hawaii and get some of these guys down there?  We could use the initials BBC (if that news organization in England doesn't mind).

Yeah, no kidding.  The biggest drawback is that all of the presentations & discussions would be held out in the lineup.  However instead of free t-shirts we'd be handing out free rashguards...

Hello,

My blog has been up for about a month - www.bigguymoney.com (http://www.bigguymoney.com).

We have a little bit of a unique story in that we sucked at life for the first 6 years of our marriage.  We racked up consumer debt and eventually divorced in 2008.  We decided to remarry each other in early 2009.  Since then we've completely changed our life around, crushing our debt and working towards our goals.  Stop by, check it out and let me know what you think!

Hi everybody :-)

My husband and I started our blog, the frugalweds: http://www.thefrugalweds.com

We've been up and running since January 2014.  We are a 30's something newlywed couple living in Los Angeles.  We pretty much eat our way through life, we travel the world, and we save & invest our money!  We are chronicling our life to teach our readers that with some careful financial planning, some ingenuity, and strategy - you can have it all :-) We might not have all the luxuries in life, but we leave a pretty darn adventure-filled lives!

We've been so very lucky to have Nords as one of our blogging mentors and he was right, this is a wonderful PF community!
Please drop by and say hello :-)

Thanks,
Anneli & Carlos of thefrugalweds.com

The perpetual blogger question is "Where do I find more readers?", and one of my answers is "Internet forums, especially the ones where they encourage you to list your blog!"

But you raise a good point:  I should have mentioned the program on this thread a long time ago.

I've been a member of Jana L's "Bloggers Helping Bloggers" program for a little over a year.  (http://blogmentoring.com/)  She pairs mentors with mentees for six weeks of e-mails, phone calls, Skype, Google Hangouts-- whatever way we prefer to communicate.  We work through about 50 questions on blogger techniques, problems, goals, and other support.  It may appear that I'm sitting back on my fat... laurels... and pontificating about arcane minutia, but it's just like martial arts:  coaching another martial artist on a skill also forces you to understand what you're doing, to articulate it, and to know why it's necessary.

My best military duty stations were training commands, and I enjoyed being an instructor.  During a blogger mentoring session I learn at least as much as I share, and my blogging gets better every time I do it.  I've also met people who I'd probably never run into any other way, so it's been very helpful at getting out of my rut and learning new skills.  Jana even runs a one-hour face-to-face BHB session at FinCon, and that's a lot of fun-- a lightning round of Q&A instead of leisurely reviews of issues or problems.

If you've been blogging for a while and want to mentor someone, Jana would love to hear from you.  If you're a newer blogger and you want some help, she'd be happy to hear from you too.  (Or, of course, you could just ask us a question here on the forum.)  And if you're a personal finance blogger, you'll really enjoy FinCon14 in New Orleans on 18-20 September.

It includes a lot of lessons I've picked up from other blogs, practical guides to those wanting to apply things I've talked about, and our own personal goals, expenses and spending reductions. Currently the blogroll has 70 blogs, 49 of them active. This humble little list has seriously expanded!

If I could get some volunteers, I'd propose we each take an nth of the list and write two or three sentences about each blog. Do enough people come to the blogroll that that's worth the effort? Anybody willing to sign on for an hour reviewing 5-10 blogs?

I'd also accept guest writers for the monthly spotlight post (of other writers' blogs only), since soliciting self-nominations didn't go over so well. What does everyone think of that?

What if we each take five blogs for now and write a couple sentences on them? I'm thinking a shorter version of the handful of featured blog summaries - an overview, maybe two or three posts you liked. That would get us pretty well into the list and then maybe we'd get some more volunteers when we've done so.

Let's skip the first five (no offense, authors, but they're pretty polished as is.) I'll do Planting our Pennies through 4 hutches. Gin, you can have the Foundry in the Forest through A Good Day to Live. Jordan, that leaves NWEdible through Mutilate the Mortgage. How's that sound?

Just PM me the text of your summaries as you get them done (including links if any) and I'll put them in the post. Thanks!

I feel like my blog topic is heavily saturated based on this thread, but I'll add it anyway.

http://www.startingrich.com (http://www.startingrich.com)

Basically, it leads you step by step into dealing with money the way the financially responsible do (addressed as the rich). I also plan on covering things like credit cards, mortgages, loans in simple terms for people in high-school and such.

I've started a blog as well, www.simplecheapmom.com.  If the blogroll is updated, I'd love to be included, thanks.

For all of those who recently posted, the blogroll is updated relatively frequently. You will be added as long as you continue to post. Welcome!! If there is a description you would like included, please update your comment to include that.

Y'all are updated, sorry for the delay.

Mods, could we insert a post or two after the first one or annex some of the first replies? I'm having to cut content further because of that 20,000 character/post limit.

I don't know of a way to do this with this forum software.

You could start a new thread and post the first few replies yourself, then I could lock this one and sticky that one.

Unfortunately if I merge them, it goes by date, so those would be at the bottom of this one.

You'd have to back date then in the database. If you are willing to go that far, I can help.

I don't have access to that (as a mod, not an admin).

I figured as much, but thought I'd offer anyway. Simple machines forum hasn't changed the schema for a long time.

While still fairly new, I am tracking my drive towards retirement (and giving a couple tips along the way) at ThinkSaveRetire.com (http://ThinkSaveRetire.com).
