The first Mustachian movie
« on: February 01, 2014, 10:02:51 AM »
Ok, this might not be the very first mustachian movie, but it came out in 1938, so it could be. I love old movies, and I'd seen this before, but last night was the first time I'd seen it since adopting mustachian ideals and goals. I wanted to post it here since many of you would probably enjoy it.

The premise of Holiday is simple. Cary Grant is a happy, carefree guy. On his first-ever vacation he meets and falls in love with a woman. When they get home, he finds out she's from a very wealthy banking family. He tells her sister, played by Katherine Hepburn, that he doesn't want any of their family money, he wants to make it on his own. And in fact, his goal is to "retire young, work old." He wants to earn enough to stop working for a long time and to enjoy and figure out life, while he's "young and healthy and feels good all the time." He wants to surprise his fiance with this information when his big business deal goes through.

Unfortunately, she's not pleased with this surprise. She wants him to accept her father's job offer to work in his bank. Like her father, she wants to have lots and lots of money. None of them can say why it's important to have so much money, just that it is.

Now Cary Grant has a big decision to make. Should he take the banking job for a couple of years and try to bring his bride-to-be around to his way of thinking, or should he just leave her and pursue his goals on his own?

I was shocked when I saw this last night - it was so mustachian! And the great part is, Cary Grant's character is portrayed as being unusual but enviable for having these goals. I'd love to see a movie like this come out now!

I've watched Fight Club fifty billion times and needed some new inspiration :)

Excellent! The truth is, you can't go wrong with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn, regardless of the topic :)
