« on: April 04, 2014, 09:14:37 PM »
Over on twitter right now people are sending out tweets with the hashtag #ReplaceBikeWithCar it's the number 1 trending topic.

Sample posts give you the flavour:

"Get out of the #(% way stupid car! Get off the road"
"You drive a car? How long does it take?"
"Car activists fought for years to get car access across the new Bay Bridge."
"You drive your car in winter? That must be very dangerous!"
"What? You still drive a car? Those are for kids. I gave that up at 18"
"Car driver just yelled at me as I overtook then immediately turned in front of him. Loser"
"Why should my tax dollars be spent on car lanes that barely anyone uses? Can't they just share the road with us?

I was concerned that this hashtag would be advocating ditching bikes and buying cars. Glad to see I was wrong on that!

Haha, nice. The hashtag does imply the other direction, but that got my attention even more so it works.

I wish I could pull this off, and I bike to work and for all errands. But I live in that sweet spot of about 3 hours from family. It's close enough that I like to visit often, but too close to justify flying.

Meh.

I think that fanning the flames of anger between the car driving and bike riding groups is generally not conductive to making a safer biking environment.  Not sure that this will have a beneficial effect.
