Photographic Mustachism
« on: January 06, 2013, 11:28:57 AM »
I stumbled across this article the other day:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/how-to-afford-anything.htm

I think it talks a lot of sense, and as one of my hobbies is photography, I like the bias towards buying more camera kit...

Ken Rockwell has some really good stuff, especially on the ideas that entry level gear today is much better than most people can make use of. Just be warned, he's also a bit of a (conspiracy-theory) nut. He seems to feel that 'general photography' is the only photography non-photographers should play around with, and they should leave the cameras on full auto (as a non-photographer who does a lot of sports photography, who shoots almost entirely on full manual, I find some of this writing irksome).

Basically, yes, he's got some great stuff in there (especially his risk-taking / just get out there and do it articles), but he's completely off his rocker in other areas.

He also preaches frugality and buys really expensive cars.
