Oliver Emberton: How to Find Your Passion
« on: November 10, 2014, 01:37:21 PM »
Passion is been a hot topic lately, but this blog article has some actual good, practical advice on what it is (or what creates it) and how to find it.

A lot of his other stuff is worth checking out too, if you haven't seen his blog before.
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

That's a really interesting article. Education and the subsequent workplace bull are a sure-fire way of beating the passion out of most people. Particularly interesting is the idea that's it's the fusion of your talents and skills that's important. I've always been frustrated by my diverse interests but maybe it's where my passion lies? Thanks for the link. (Also unicorns = automatic like from me)

Edited because of autocorrect damned it.

I have now finished reading and thinking about this article, and it's even better than it was at first glance. However, I disagree with him - I believe that everyone can a world leader at something. He says you can't, but then he says you can be the best at a combination of things - that is being the best at something in my book. Look around you at your coworkers - I found it astounding what some of them had achieved, even though they seemed at first glance to be just ordinary.

Thanks for that. It was really handy for me, I'm between jobs again and had been wondering what to do next.

I started a business when I was in England a number of years ago. I left it to move to Australia and be with my husband. I had wondered if I'd ever find anything I was that passionate about again. But from that article I can actually see the reality of it, I created something in that business that no-one else in the area did, I got to be very good at it and enjoyed my success, which in turn made me very passionate about it.

Maybe it's time to try something new again.
