Couple pays off $127K in debt in <4 years
« on: April 14, 2019, 07:33:31 AM »
It doesn't sound like they had a huge income, and have little kids, so this was pretty good (aside from the fact that they stopped even matched retirement contributions).  https://www.oregonlive.com/business/2019/04/this-couple-ditched-127000-in-debt-in-4-years-heres-how.html?utm_campaign=theoregonian_sf&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR2KpgAztNigyah_qArVadU2wyjf3r14mAZun5T3bQ_EuH44dDInBu2eV9M

But what raised my eyebrows was one comment: "Well if they would have just waited another three years most of the debt would be wiped due to statute of limitations."

Oh really?  Tell me more.

Good for them, but I was confused about why they are now saving for a down payment on a house when they already have a house? Is their mortgage still under water?

They are in their early thirties so isn't it more like they paid off the debt in ~10 years (relative to when it was incurred)? They already had saved $30k in the years leading up to getting serious about debt repayment. And, ugh, they followed Dave Ramsey's course...

Nice to see an article about conquering debt instead of hopeless lamenting though.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
