Mustachian-compatible writing and life advice
« on: January 14, 2015, 06:34:56 PM »
Those of you who are writers may appreciate this post - not strictly Mustachian, but with a similarly robust, reasonable, logical (sweary) approach to the writing life, and to spending time and money well and wisely (ie, on things that matter).

I'm decreeing a new law.  Let's call it 'M41's law' (in homage to Mr. Godwin).

M4's law:

"It is just a matter of time before unicorns are mentioned in a post / thread / comments section"

Sorry, that unicorn signaled my exit. I'm pretty done with that whole subject.  Zombies too.  Oh, and post-apocalyptic scenarios.  Can we move on now?

Okay maybe I'll go back and read the rest.

I kinda scanned it, and forwarded it to my more awake and alert self tomorrow, but I didn't see any unicorns.  Maybe the M41 rule should include unicorns AND rainbows, because unicorns are still pretty few and far between.  Zombies and apocalypses pop up all the time tho, I hear you on that.

It's actually a pretty nice list.  Even mentions King's 'On Writing' which shows that the author is really a hack :)  In my perfect world, the future is in the hands of good writers, since people on the whole are more and more interested in being entertained.  At this relaxed hour, a little time before bed but after the kids have gone to bed, I will agree with him to have a glass of wine and write a bit.  Hopefully Humanity has done all of the hard infrastructure and labor work and realized that the best stuff left in the future is creating and sharing ideas.  I do get excited about the future if it will be full of better writing for video games (I grew up with Princess Peach, but am pretty impressed with Heavy Rain and the GTA series).  Books will always be close to my heart, but with 7 billion people, surely there will be at least one good novel every year...  Meh, I guess I'm not too concerned about being entertained, maybe overstimulated is the problem :)
