To summarize, rapper Kendrick Lamar (networth 18million) buys his sister a new Camry and supposedly people on social media are complaining that he didn't buy her a new Benz or "something sexy" (albeit many are supportive). The comments section is very supportive citing good mpg, low insurance, cheap repair costs and he supposedly already has a college fund set up for her.

I'd want a Camry more than a Benz. I don't live in a super sketchy neighbourhood but between my downtown office and where I live, I'd have to expect that a Benz would get keyed once or twice. A non-keyed Camry looks better than a keyed Benz.
-
A Camry is a safe, reliable car. A good choice especially if his sister is a young driver which I am guessing she is since she has a college fund.
-
Personally I find the Camary to be a desperately boring old boat that is way too big to drive comfortably, but I applaud the gesture. :)

He would expect her to have to maintain it by herself eventually, so it ought to be something she could afford long term.
-
Perhaps he is a member of MMM? What do you think his forum screen name is?

Yup, that's what I was thinking.

Haha good question. You wonder why he isn't FIRE yet making with a networth 18million, someone run the numbers whats 4% annually? 500k?

Personally, I'd take a sexy Audi or BMW over a Mercedes.
That being said, I'm a bit of petrolhead.
The camry is a great car for someone young and needing to keep insurance prices low. Hell, I drive one.

Yeah, I really don't think anyone reacting badly to this is thinking more than a month ahead.

From my experience enjoying his intelligent, yet fun music (one of my go-to's for running), I am not surprised he made an intelligent decision.
Yes, he has some ridiculous material out there (see Backseat Freestyle), but overall he's just great. I downloaded his newest album via my library Hoopla account and have really been enjoying it (esp. DNA).
Kudos to him for helping his sister get a smart start.

I was thinking the same. But also, what if that was the car SHE wanted rather than a Benz? He could have told her he wanted to buy her a car and asked her what she wanted. I cannot imagine spending that much on a gift for someone without knowing it was what they wanted.

What a baller, I think the Corolla is good enough

Look at Mr Spendypants over here.
Previous model year Yaris, manual gearbox, no AC.

Audi: the car driven by German Cement Salesmen ~Jeremy Clarkson
(I also own a Camry)

Depends entirely on the model.
I'd take an AMG GTC Roadster over an R8. Audi stuffed the front end on the new one.

That means a lot coming from Janet Jackson. ;)
