Just found his blog. He went to all 50 states and went to all the national parks in the lower 48.

Expense breakdown @ http://somethingsarecool.com/how-to-plan-a-road-trip-faq/

It sounds like about 25% of his nights he slept in the back of his 2005 Honda Element in Walmart Parking Lots. Cool story! He ended up spending $20k total.

Some of the press that he has had:

Thanks for posting  that. I love reading about other peoples experiences and costs. Other than his $20/day for one person food bill, which seemed high to me, and fuel for his somewhat gas guzzler vehicle, he had really low expenses. Lots of free camping is the key. I just finished my western US trip (done in bits and pieces over a few .months) to put my house up for sale. Then east after that. Still looking for new place to live but will probably end up back in Big Bear Lake for this winter - maybe have a MMM OC meetup ski weekend!

I would definitely be down! I haven't been to a ski city in a cuople decades adn I've never skied.
