Sounds like a blast. I've been spending way too much time lately researching the cost of living in Southeast Asia. If you don't mind me asking, why Chiang Mai instead of Malaysia or Cambodia, etc.? I am not criticizing, just wondering what drew you to one place in the region over another.

I took a look at a few places, and did my prechecks with my company.. Because im already an expat, working in Azerbaijan I have to have approval from my company to rotate to a third country.. Due to tax implications..

The company will only allow me to live in a country that has company owned assets there... So Thailand was the only one that had that, and to me.. its just a hub im going to use

as for Chiang Mai... Its  a bad ass little place, and I quite enjoy northern Thailand.

as for living costs.. I have many employees and friends that live there.. and most are quite comfortable living on $1500 USD a month... and this is with Thai wives and kids.... I can pay for a good nice living there, and just live off my tax incentives.

I do have a friend who lives of $600 a month..... he is on the FIRE plan as well... He makes 200k a year, and spends 12k a year total... but he Is down to his last 18 months or so till fire... He is gonna go crazy once he is done lol

That's awesome. It still boggles my mind that families can live so swell so cheaply. Are there any language barrier issues?

Reading between the lines, was part of his move motivated by the end of his relationship with his long term girlfriend and no longer being able to split rent with her? I haven't kept up as much with his new blog.

Always surprised when people move to Chiang mai, it’s fun for a weekend trip. Or if you are a poor digital nomad. The place gets boring really quick, and the burning part of the year isn’t nice. I live in Bangkok, while not nearly as cheap, I still get international cuisine and nightlife.

I'm glad to see that Jason has a new blog and is doing well. DM was a big inspiration for me. I'd always wondered what happened after he sold the site and stopped blogging.
