I've used some material from the You Are Not So Smart book in my logic courses. Definitely a favorite. I'd say it's overall in harmony with Mustachianism. For instance, it emphasizes the various ways our minds are inclined towards processes that result in self-sabotage, and that such inclinations are exploited by marketers to get us to buy shit we don't need. However, the author takes the line that we can't really overcome cognitive bias and heuristics, we just have to find ways to cope. This is where McRaney seems to differ from MMM. My own view - and I presume most Mustachians would agree - is that the mind is more plastic than he suggests, consequently allowing us to gain greater control over our psyche, at least in part, through active development of our rational faculties.
