In your 30s? Read this
« on: March 23, 2014, 02:11:54 PM »
A really great crowd sourced article about regrets those over 40 had about their 30s. Not much us mustachians don't already know, but summed up nicely and with real world scenarios.

My favorite is the last quote:

“When I turned forty my father told me that I’d enjoy my forties because in your twenties you think you know what’s going on, in your thirties you realize you probably don’t, and in your forties you can relax and just accept things. I’m 58 and he was right.”

Definitely agree with the twenties and thirties.  Gives me something to look forward to!

I've used the 20-40-60 rule:  in your 20s you're very self-conscious because you think everyone is watching you.  By your 40s you no longer care what people think about you.  By your 60s you realize that nobody was ever watching you in the first place...

Unless you are already dead — mentally, emotionally, and socially — you cannot anticipate your life 5 years into the future. It will not develop as you expect. So just stop it. Stop assuming you can plan far ahead, stop obsessing about what is happening right now because it will change anyway, and get over the control issue about your life’s direction. Fortunately, because this is true, you can take even more chances and not lose anything; you cannot lose what you never had.

Kind of anti-mustachian to me. I agree with taking chances, but not a huge fan of the excusitis-toned fatalism.

I didn't read it that way at all.  I'm always stuck in my head trying to plan out my life.  That line really spoke to me.  I need to enjoy the moment, prepare for the future (but not obsess).  :)
