Haters Guide to the Williams Sonoma Catalog

I'm not sure whether to call this Mustacianism or anti-mustacianism.... but it is funny nonetheless.

It was fun.  I look forward to buying it all at Goodwill for 1% of the original price.  Except the cheese,  I will buy that at Grocery Outlet for 10% of the original price.

I've been a fan of Drew Magary's since his Kissing Suzy Kolber days, and even though I'm a diehard Williams-Sonoma fangirl I love the Haters Guides so much.

CONFESSION:  The biggest shopping spree I've had in my life was when we were moving into our condo.  We'd made a profit from the sale of our previous house, and Mr. Mandalay knew my dream was to go nuts in Williams-Sonoma.  And so I did, to the tune of almost two grand.  The receipt was longer than I'm tall (5'4").  It was glorious.  However, I was buying stuff like dishes and flatware, not the uni-use stuff.  And a Breville Smart Oven, which was worth every penny because I use it pretty much every day.

Fun article, but I don't know why he went after the $2 cookie cutters.  That seemed like a bit of a soft target.

No, he liked the cookie cutters--because of the handles.

I wouldn't mind one of those tartan door mats. Looks very festive. But instead of "Williams" or my actual surname, I would have "Life Form" lettered on it. "Sentient Life Form" would be even better....but probably wouldn't fit.

That was fun.  Loved this "guide" to the lobster brioche rolls:

"This is the great racket of a place like Williams-Sonoma or Dean & Deluca: They serve a wealthy customer base that is lazy enough to pay virtually ANY amount for anything that is pre-made. W-S doesn’t make its money from cookie guns, but from the yummy mummy who breezes through a Balducci’s hot bar without looking at a single price tag. There’s no concept or concern for what things OUGHT to cost. If a dozen miniature lobster burgers (aka Demons In The Outhouse) are $130, they’re $130. Shit, make it a THOUSAND dollars. Who gives a shit? BURN ALL MY MONEY THERE’S MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM AMIGO."

Oh yeah...And here I am unpacking my five tote bags from Aldi's. "And new this year, just in time for the festive holidays, is the evocative, cheerful, must-have this season... 99 cent bag of lentils...Chestnuts roasting by the open fire...Lentils in the InstaPot...Let's open up this Goodwill bag...And see what we've got!!" Loo-loo-loo, the carols ring out as children stare starry-eyed at the delicious rice on the cute red and green Aldi's paper plates.

Aldi 99 cent lentils rock our world in these parts.  A Pinch of Yum blog has a recipe for curried red lentils - a few tweaks here and there and my daughter has her favorite lunches for a week.
