Frugal CEO and Smart NBA Player
« on: April 14, 2014, 10:03:16 PM »
I don't know if anyone has watched Broke the 30 for 30 about broke athletes. They only highlight a few smart athletes on there and for some reason I have always been interested to see if there is smart athletes out there just stashing a lot of there salary. Here's a cool article about a trust fund set up by a rookie.

Alfred Morris still drives a 91 Mazda (I have a 93 and thinking about emailing Mazda for a refurb;) ). This was after he had a nice signing bonus as a rookie.

And last but not least after some googling of cheap CEOs found a great article on INC about the CEO of Fastenal.

http://www.inc.com/magazine/19971001/1336.html

Best part is "And then there are his suits. At a discount store, they'd probably go for $200 apiece. But Kierlin didn't buy them there. He got them from the manager of a men's clothing store. Not from the manager's store. From the manager. The suits are used. "Luckily, we're the same size," says Kierlin, a triumphant smile crossing his face. "I picked up six of those suits for 60 bucks each.""

Good read. It was written in 97 so I think you can tell the difference in writing quality. Some solid Mustachian Principles from the CEO.

I guess I forgot to ask if anyone else has found articles about frugal athletes living below their means or modest CEOs (comparatively to their peers)?

"no meal per diems for business travel. ("Hey, you're gonna eat anyway," says Slaggie.)"

Of course - but if I weren't travelling for work it would likely be leftovers at home, not at a restaurant.

The Mazda was definitely a PR move but it was refreshing to see an NFL player with an old car.

I thought it was interesting hearing about the old furniture in the CEOS office. It also would be interesting to actually talk to some what it is really like working for the Co.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
