Virginia man Robbie Pruitt, 44, assistant rector of a church, had his bike stolen last September off the back of his car. Reflecting that bikes are in short supply due to COVID, and maybe the thief needed the bike to get to work, he posted a message offering to fix other people's bikes for free. Also, he would take unwanted bikes that people wanted to get rid of, and fix them up for people who needed them. Repaired over 140 bikes by year end, donating 60% of them and returning the rest to their owners.

There's a similar type of charity near me. They take in old bikes, fix up and sell for the benefit of a local non-profit. Demand has been insanely high since the pandemic.
