FIRE Couple +Numbers -Snark
« on: May 28, 2021, 12:23:46 PM »
This CNBC article seems to do this couple a fair shake, actually recording their journey (including monthly expenses, post 'retirement' work, and the conversations and issues they had to work through to make it happen) without wandering down speculation alley.

Nice article!! I see they have a form at the bottom to apply to be on one of these.

Interesting article. Thanks for sharing. I would definitely be interested in seeing some of these with people who decided to have children, given that it changes the calculations.

Thanks for sharing this article!

It strikes a good balance of acknowledging both their high incomes (which of course makes the accumulation phase easier) and the sacrifices they made to buck the mainstream and reach early FI. It also lays out some actionable steps and shows that the Adcocks’ chosen investment vehicles (e.g., target date retirement funds, which we also use) are things within reach to most people once they’re in a position to invest.

Good job, CNBC.

Part of me thinks it'd be great to be an example: 60k salary with ~60% (gross) savings rate.  I think it could motivate folks with average incomes.  I also have nothing to sell...notice how many of the profiles on that site are for business owners who benefit from the exposure.  But on the other hand...
a) I don't feel like what I'm doing is really that difficult or unique (probably tainted by viewing this board)
b) I don't think I'd want the possibility of friends/family/coworkers knowing this level of detail.  I'd hate for them see it as bragging / preaching.  I feel like it takes guts for these people to share full names, budgets, net worth, etc with the entire internet (especially if they're not writing a blog, advertising their business, etc)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
