I read this article independently of your posting. I signed up to hopefully go down and help with the research. As a cyclist :)

As someone who used to ride through Watford to work every day, the cyclist-priority-on-roundabout thing scares me silly.

I guess it's what you're used to. But I am and have been very happy 'acting like a vehicle' and just cycling on the roads. I can't get my head round what the problem is, and what the need is for dedicated cycling lanes - especially in congested traffic.

On high-speed stretches, yes I think it makes sense to have the cyclist separate.

I guess I'd need to see it all in action. IMHO.. the more cyclists on the road cycling *properly* the better. BAD cyclists do more harm than just about anything else, I'd guess.

Yes, I am used to always using dedicated bike lanes, so for me, cycling on the road doesn't make sense, and I would feel unsafe doing that (without a helmet, Dutch style :)). Though I guess in North America (not sure about England), roads are not as narrow as in Holland, so cyclist and drivers both have enough space to use the road, which is not the case in the Netherlands.

The lanes are REALLY wide here in Canada... except in the winter, when the sides are full of snow ;) At least in Ontario!

I know, I had the pleasure of biking around some residential areas of Vancouver. WOW! I can't believe how wide the roads are. Amazing! I can't believe there aren't more cyclists there.

Really? I'd say Van is pretty good for cycling.. in Canada. Ottawa's pretty good too (just less so in the winter). Not much snow to shrink the lanes in Van!

Yeah, what I meant was that Vancouver is great for cycling.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
