“More and more I’m conscious of the notion of treating people like I want to be treated, and more and more I’m conscious of the notion that I got lucky financially and I should share that in ways that mean something,” he said.

Forbes pins Newmark’s personal wealth at $1.6 billion, though he disputes that figure, and there’s nothing in his demeanor or lifestyle to suggest he is a man of means. He lives simply and eschews conspicuous consumption. His focus the last few years has been giving away part of his fortune through his foundation, with a focus on veterans and military families, voter protection, women in technology and journalism.

I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that the creator of such a powerful tool for mustachian living is mustachian himself!

He's always seemed like a pretty cool guy from everything I've ever heard about him. How does Craigslist make money though? The only thing I'm aware generating revenue is the job listings - and those are not pricey in comparison. There are no banner ads, nothing like that. Do car and furniture dealers pay for ads? Large apartment complexes? Just curious, in the way I'm curious about LinkedIn also.

I saw him on a panel discussion at the National Archives about Ethics in Journalism.  I was so impressed by how humble he was and how he realized that people who have a lot have a responsibility toward making sure that those who don't have as much should at least have the same opportunities.  I had no idea why he was included in the panel when I got there, but I'm so glad he was.

For context, this was in March 2017, when the world was still hyperventilating about "fake news" and misinformation in journalism.  Not to make light of it, but we do just accept more of the "fake news" blather and react with more sarcasm than outrage anymore.
