Not sure if this has been posted yet, but good for this guy and his frugal, fearless ways.

Somehow a $15k car is frugal, but having a cell phone would be too expensive? ( yes i see they have one prepaid phone)

I think some people (including lots on these forums) just like to brag that they get by without a good cell phone. "Back in my day we had to walk uphill both ways, and we like it that way!"

Otherwise, good motivational story!

Or it just could be that there are those of us that find over-apped 'phones' to be ludicrous.

I personally sought out a phone that did 4 things, made and received calls and made and received texts.  That's it.  I don't need to sell my soul to Apple to do that.

While I agree that 95% of the apps on my smartphone are totally useless to me, the smartphone itself with all its capabilities is an amazing piece of equipment, and having now had one for about 5 years, I would never go back to being without one.  However, I would drop my home internet connection in a second because of my phone, if my DW would permit it!  (she won't; same for cable).

Also, too bad this article wasn't on Yahoo! so we could read all the negative comments in the Comments section!  I find the comments there very entertaining, in a twisted sort of way.
