Broken Eggs
« on: September 26, 2014, 01:08:19 PM »
I recall posting something about this when the film was being made, and now it's apparently out (not sure where -- I expect PBS?), but anyway, this piece profiles one of the couples featured in the film:

Can't help wondering what their household expenses were prior to cutting them by $3500/month?

As always with these Yahoo articles, the Comments section is pure gold.

Am I misreading this?  They also cut their utilities by a few hundred dollars a month.  So with just the housing costs, they reduced $42k/year and then a few thousand a year on top of that.  They're 66 and 71 and they have an enormous mortgage!  They may have been "diligent" with their 10% retirement contributions, but man, they could have realized that retirement planning is more than that!
I didn't even get to the comments!  Sheesh!

"more than one-third of workers say they have saved less than $1,000 for their golden years."    Whoa...
