...only paid $2000 back? They lived at a parents' house for free? They went on a honeymoon?

Am I looking at is a little too harshly?

No. I don't think so.

They could have lived at the parents and worked on their loans and saved for a proper honeymoon. I have a friend getting married soon and they are really counting on wedding gift money so they can take a honeymoon trip to Bora Bora. Doesn't even make sense to me, sounds like a boring vacation for old rich people. Why would 2 young people want to go? Worst part --- they regularly take cruises to Caribbean islands ... I would think you could eventually get tired of seeing beaches for all your vacations... Variety is the spice of life.

Ugh, I read this article when it first came out and it infuriated me. I would also like to point out that they live in one of the deadest parts of Nova Scotia, which is one of the deadest provinces in the country right now. I'm guessing he's doing a lot of his degree online, since Halifax is about 1.5hrs from their area. The housing market is pretty rough out there, so I can't blame them for not having sold yet, but there's still so much wrong here!

She spent the next two years at Nova Scotia Community College completing a photography program, hoping to become a photojournalist.

The BLS further predicted that photojournalism would remain a very competitive industry, with fewer wage or salary positions available than applicants interested in filling them (www.bls.gov).

So she's been paying back $33 per month, and it's hindering her from living the life she'd anticipated?  Um, no.
