A cheapskate’s guide to retirement saving
« on: January 02, 2014, 06:40:05 AM »
Have been lurking around the forums for awhile now, so thought it was finally time to contribute to the conversation. Saw this article and thought of MMM: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/a-cheapskates-guide-to-retirement-saving-2013-01-02?pagenumber=1

Some things I especially liked:
*That she doesn't call it "down-sizing" but rather "right-sizing."
*This quote:  “...that’s what financial independence is. You don’t have to answer to anyone because you have enough.”
*And this one: “The promise of the current Reset is the opportunity for a life made better not by ownership of real estate, appliances, cars and all manner of material goods, but by greater flexibility and lower levels of debt, more time with family and friends, greater promise of personal development and access to more and better experiences.”

The Anti-Mustachian articles are typically more amusing, but it's always nice to see signs that there are other Mustachians out there, trying to get the world to listen.

Thanks for posting. I struggle with my parents' and others' view of me raising my children in a very Mustachian household, who constantly worry I am "depriving" my family. It's all a matter of re-framing your thinking and even the words you use to describe your lifestyle. Everyone's needs are well-met and we are healthy, happy and comfortable. AND we're probably going to retire well before 60!
