So says a CNN poll, anyway.
http://money.cnn.com/2014/06/04/news/economy/american-dream/index.html?hpt=hp_t2The thing about these polls though, to me, is that they are just a snapshot. I'm willing to bet that a great many of today's Baby Boomers had similar sentiments in the 70's, when Vietnam was at its peak in the early part of the decade, and inflation was sky-high at the end of the decade. Most of them seem to have done just fine.
Also, I worry that this attitude has a self-fulfilling prophesy aspect to it. If one feels like the American Dream is out of reach, then why bother striving for it, right? Then again, as we see here in MMM, the old American Dream isn't what many of us are choosing these days, particularly vis-a-vis the material trappings.
So I take this poll with a grain of salt.
