Full-Grown Moustaches Only
« on: February 22, 2012, 01:38:35 PM »
Hi all,

In my newfound quest for moustachian independence, I'm looking to sell my virtually-brand-new, stupidly-financed antimustachian car I bought about 8 18 months ago when I graduated from college. I'm only putting this up here in case anyone with a fully grown and well-groomed mustache might be interested, as it's far above and beyond anyone without one and with any sense of decency.

It's a 2011 Chevy Camaro 1LT RS. It has about 6500 7700 miles on it, a bunch of extra features, and about $30k $25k left on the loan. I'd be up for selling it for pretty much that amount, or transferring the loan if anyone's interested. I can provide more details if anyone's interested, so PM me or post here and I'll include more.

Thanks!

Holy cow... $30K can buy you a condo here in Vegas, and you'll still have enough money to furnish it!

Man, Grigory, you are tempting me with those low real-estate prices.

I don't have much use for a muscle car, but a dwelling that I could rent out and later sell for a profit for 30k is very tempting. :-)

As someone who currently owns 8 properties in Vegas (well 7 in Vegas, then another one that's in North Vegas)... don't buy a condo here.  A SFR is a much better purchase, IMO.  And yes, one of those properties is a condo.  But yes, do buy property here.  Texas is another good place to invest, that'd be my first choice for an out of state investment.

Hi Brad,

My mustache is only yet but stubble, but I thought I'd comment to say good job on making the decision to cut your losses and get out of the car!

I was in the exact same position just a few months ago.  My old car died last spring, right as I was about to graduate with an Electrical Engineering degree.  I knew my job prospects were good, and so I let my self succumb to the pressure and temptation of my friends and family to just buy a new car.  I got a 2011 Camaro 1LT RS too.  I believe I knew in my gut that it wasn't the right decision, but I had convinced myself that I could "afford" it.  Around 5 months later I discovered MMM, and it didn't take long before I knew I had to sell the car.  My family thought I was crazy until I convinced them that I would be way better off without it (amazingly that took a long time).  So after saving up for a couple more months I sold it back to the dealer, bought a used car with cash, and haven't regretted it for a moment.

Good luck selling the car!

Tough choice to give up a badass ride like that. But I think in the long run you will be glad you did.

I have an older camaro (2001 SS), and I am struggling with whether I should keep it or not. It's paid off, which makes it easier to rationalize, but it already has 100k miles and it is most likely goign to start falling apart soon I fear. Nothing wrong with it now, but you don't often hear things like "man those camaros just cruise to 200k miles with no problems!"

I have a 2000 Camaro with 150,000+ miles, and she runs like a top. I paid cash for the car with 113,000 miles in 2005, and it's been a great purchase. Admittedly, I've babied the car, and I typically only drive about 25-30 miles/week, but my experience has been that this is certainly a reliable car.

Well that's good to hear. But do you have the 6 cylinder or the V8? The 6 cylinders seem to be much more reliable engines overall, but it's good to hear you got to 150k at least without any major issues. Gives me hope.

Like I said, the one good thing is that it is paid off.

I had a 99 Firebird V6 a couple years back. That 3800 V6 is one of the best engines ever made by Pontiac/GM. On that note, so much other stuff went wrong with that car that I sold it in less than 2 years.

Sorry to get off topic, but I have to second the low housing prices here in Vegas.  I bought a 1315 sq ft 3/2/2 with a decent back yard for $50k.  Rents on these are about $850.  If you are interested in investing in rental RE, this is the place to be right now.

Hey, a third Mustachian from Vegas!  We'll have enough for a meetup soon!

Glad to see you're also taking advantage of our awesome real estate opportunity.  I just closed on our latest at the end of February (property #7), and got a new one under contract this week.  Can't agree more on the potential right now.

Did you have this parked on Gorham by any chance?

Yeah, before I moved in August. It's usually sitting on/around S Brooks & Haywood now. Glad to see another Madisonian mustachian!

Hah, not to be weird or anything, but I have always thought it was creepy to tell people who put stuff up for sale on craigslist or something that you've seen it.  I did it with a Scion I was looking at in Pittsburgh (it had a distinct paintjob, and I saw it when I rode my bike to get some groceries), and someone told me they saw my car here in Texas when I put it on CL.

-break-

Now that I think about it, maybe it isn't so weird?  What with facebook (telling people everything about yourself, with pictures!) and blogging, maybe people don't value privacy and anonymity as much anymore.

Yea! Strange coincidence there, no doubt.
