FREE Phone - Giving away a Smartphone with Verizon Contract
« on: September 30, 2014, 09:16:43 AM »
I am giving away a gently used Galaxy Nexus smartphone that is currently associated with an unused phone line on my Verizon wireless account.  If you are interested in acquiring a free smartphone to use on a reliable network without committing to a 2-year contract or paying ridiculous taxes and fees, read on...

Here's the situation: a couple months ago, my brother switched from Verizon to AT&T with 12 months remaining on his Verizon contract.  Instead of paying the early termination fee to close his phone line, we decided to temporarily suspend the line and try to find someone who would be willing to take over the phone line for the remaining 12 months.  Since I am only able to suspend the phone line for a couple months before Verizon starts charging me for the line, I need to get rid of this extra line ASAP.  Transferring liability for the line is routine and Verizon makes this process very easy.

I have been trying to transfer this line for a couple weeks on celltradeusa.com and these are the most common questions I get:

What is the phone number for this line?  Can I port my own number to this line?

Yes, Verizon will allow you to change the phone number once you take over the contract.  Out of respect for the person who takes the phone (especially if they decide not to port their own number) I don't want to publically post the currently assigned number.

What's in it for you?
  • I don't have to pay an early termination fee to close the line
  • I don't have to worry about making monthly payments on a phone I don't use
  • I get to help out a fellow mustachian

What's in it for me?
  • You get a free smartphone on America's most reliable cell network
  • You don't have to sign a 2-year contract; this is only a 12 month commitment (after which you are eligible for an upgrade)
  • You owe exactly $0 in ridiculous start-up fees and taxes
  • You can create your phone plan to meet your particular needs without having to worry about a contract extension

What is the monthly payment for this phone line?

The phone line I am giving away is currently suspended so I don't pay anything; however, if it were active, the line would cost between $50 and $60 (since it is technically attached to my More Everything Plan).  BUT once you assume liability for the contract, Verizon will allow you to change the plan to whatever will fit your needs.  This process is no different from getting a brand new phone from Verizon (i.e. you pick a plan, agree to a contract and you get a phone); the only difference is that 1) the phone is absolutely free, 2) you won't have to pay any taxes or fees and 3) the contract you get with the phone is 12 months long instead of 24 months long. If you want to find out how much you would owe monthly, simply go to the Verizon website and browse the plans and services that they offer.

If this sounds interesting to you, please contact me and I can explain the process further (as I said before, it is very simple and easy).  My e-mail address is youngrq87@outlook.com

Thanks for reading!

here is the link to my celltradeusa posting: http://celltradeusa.com/Verizon+Wireless/Galaxy+Nexus/1088

This site acts as an intermediary for these kinds of transactions, although, as I found out from Verizon Wireless, it is possible to transfer lines without the help of the website.

Thanks!
