MOD NOTE: Spreadsheet here: AirMnM Spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApGUGxOegBnMdGdzWXFPNnV2TG8wUGZ2VlZoYVJyMGc&usp=sharing)
So, it's finally summer in the cold North (Montreal) and during my bike ride home today, it got me thinking.
We should have some sort of home-swapping thingy on this forum. A la AirBnB. Only, more mustachian, aka free. Ok, not free, but bartered!
I have an extra room in my condo, which can (and is!) be used for guests. We'd be more than happy to lend it out to fellow mustachians in exchange for the same service in an area where we want to go. We can lend bikes, cooking supplies (although I wouldn't blame you to want to try restaurants around here), maps, suggested activities that are free and fun. What more could you want?
We are not exactly downtown-y, but we are in an interesting spot with easy biking access to a lot of stuff. That is also something I would be interested in while looking for other places for the swap.
This is a very popular concept in France/Europe. Let's bring it over to Mustacheland. (By the way, swaps can be done at the same time or not. Private discussions will be required.)
I understand the trust issue, but I believe trust can be granted to people online. Maybe not to people who have 1 message on this board and sound sketchy. But I am 100% confident this can be done.
What do you guys think?
-
I think it's a cool idea! Unfortunately as I don't have my own place, I wouldn't be able to offer a room. Though, I'm willing to do grocery shopping and cooking in return for an AirMnM room. ;)
-
I see a lot of potential in setting up a bartering system among MMM readers. Since we share some core beliefs and likely to have same "ways of life", I would like to hear more feedback on a community that has an effective bartering system.
I shared some thoughts here too: https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/mustachian-marketplace/experiment-electronics-repair-services-in-socal-(irvine-ca)/
Here I want to work as a producer of services (repair electronics) at a highly discounted price and people can rate me.
The idea being that the community has members who are rated by their peers both as a producer as well as a consumer of the services.
So in this case, we can rate people who "rent" these places out and people who stayed there and so on.
-
I think it's a really good idea! I wonder if enough people would be interested. We've got an extra bedroom in Fredericksburg, va which is a cool place to visit if anyone is into civil war history. We're walking distance to many historical sites, as well as the cute downtown area.
-
We're semi-early-retired teachers currently living in Kingston, Jamaica.
We'd love to host some fellow Mustachians and give advice about where to travel island-wide.
Where do we register?
-
Unfortunately living in a 400 sqft. condo prevents me from offering a room to stay in, but if anyone's ever in Vegas I'm more than happy to give rides to/from the airport to save you on Taxi costs! :)
-

But... do you take the tunnel?
-
Hmm, I'd be interested! I have a cute (small) place in southern Sicily that sleeps 2, and would be happy to exchange for awhile for any of the following: internal/external plastering, installing a small sink next to the bathroom, maybe installing a metal railing on the mezzanine, etc.
If you're interested and have some handy skills/portable tools and can bluff your way in Italian (even with a phrasebook), send me a message sometime.
Edited to add: We don't live in Sicily and probably wouldn't be around during your stay, you'd have the run of the place ;)

I feel like I'm missing something, but... yes? Most likely, depending on where you're staying (though I may hop directly onto the 215E and not).
-
Great Idea,
I have a condo 10 minute bixie ride to downtown ottawa, great for canada day and you can see the fireworks from the balcony.
I would love to trade for access to somewhere warm :)
-
I have thought about this as well. I think it is a great idea - just comes down to the trust issue. Maybe a cash security deposit as a sign of good faith that is returned when you leave? As I look to FI in 7 or less years traveling and staying for free or very low cost will be very appealing. Getting together with other mustachians around the world sounds like fun too.
-

I'm in the same boat, and will offer in addition to cooking, technical support, climbing instruction, or just unskilled labor.
-

Sorry, I read too many Vegas travel type forum posts, where there's a whole thing about the Vegas cabbies ripping off unknowing tourists by taking the tunnel and getting on the highway to take them to hotels that would be more cheaply reached by surface streets.
Lame joke, never mind.

Ah, yes, I do recall seeing an article recently about cabbies longhauling. I follow now; they'd be taking the airport tunnel south to the freeway, I'd be headed north to Tropicana.
Well regardless, if I long haul you it'll be at my own expense, to get to chat with you a bit longer. :D

For any Mustachians cruising through Tokyo I'm happy to put you up. I live in a spacious work-subsidized apartment in central Tokyo, with a spare bedroom and spare futon. You're welcome to stay for free (I already do this kind of thing on couchsurfing) but if you want take me to dinner at the cheap yakitori place down the road, I wouldn't turn it down.
-
Now I want to go to Vegas for the car ride!
-
I would love to visit Montreal, but I too live in a tiny apartment. I suspect a lot of Mustachians do. But this is a great idea.
-
This is a long shot, but are there any mustachians in Atlanta? I'm travelling to Atlanta in September for a wedding and trying to figure out a cheap place to stay for a few days! I'm not sure what I could offer in return really, but I'm decently handy and a pretty good cook?
-
Anyone based in Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands?
-
First time poster, but I think this is awesome. I live in the twin cities in Minnesota with a spare room (we have cats, beware allergies), and I am definitely interested in getting a ride to my hotel in Las Vegas late this summer!
-
Definitely take arebelspy up on the ride in Vegas rather than the shuttle/taxi ride. It is not only fairly expensive for the distance, but it is time conusming to wait for the shuttle to arrive and then drop everyone else off before they get to your hotel. The shuttle driver was ill-tempered as well. I should have called arebelspy, and he had offered so I had no excuse.

No problem, just send me a PM and I'll give you my cell so you can text me!

Anyone in Oahu needing some housesitting in October? :P
-
I think it's a wonderful idea, I was thinking starting a post on this.
I have a room for 2 people available in my house if you want to spend some time in the very south of France. I live in a little town near Perpignan, it's two hours from Barcelona (maybe three from the airport), feel free to PM me if you want more info.
EDIT: Just started a little doc, feel free to edit/add what you think might be revelant
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApGUGxOegBnMdGdzWXFPNnV2TG8wUGZ2VlZoYVJyMGc&usp=sharing
-
Awesome idea, I've added my info! I also added an extra column and changed the name of one of yours if you don't mind.
-
Great ideas on the Air MnM Googledoc! I've just added our info for Sicily.
-
Ludwig, starting a Googledoc is an excellent idea! I've filled in some details, wouldn't mind visiting France someday. ;)
Perhaps a mod or the OP of this thread can add the link to the first post too, for greater visibility?
-

Hi Eva,
I may be able to help you out. What are the dates? I would need to check with my husband first but maybe we can work something out.
-
A prize for funny goes to MilwaukeeKevin: What can you do? "Not rob me."
-
Would folks be interested in starting a MMM couchsurfing group?

I'm in Atlanta, but my house is in no fit state to host anyone. I really need to finish renovating...
-

Just wanted to say I slept on this dude's couch last night and can vouch for him. I did not rob him and he in turn provided a tasty dinner, a nighttime bike tour of the city, and good conversation. A++ would couch again.
Would folks be interested in starting a MMM couchsurfing group?
Sure!
-
I like this idea. We have a spare room in Ottawa (Canada).
-
I'm in Twin Falls, Idaho. We have a spare bedroom (although it's often occupied), and love to meet new people. Count us in for the MMM couchsurfing group.

Couchsurfing group here (https://www.couchsurfing.org/group.html?gid=79724). Pretty barebones for now, but I should be able to fill it out a little more this week
-
Quitting my job and getting on the road, so I'll have to take myself off the list... but that does mean I might be seeing some of ya'll soon, filling out a couchsurfing profile atm.
-

Hell yeah man, I know what that means to you. Not many rocks in Wisconsin but lemme know if you're ever in town.
-
If anyone wants to go to (though expensive) Norway and visit a.o The Pulpit Rock https://www.google.no/search?q=the+pulpit+rock&safe=active&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=6-82UqCTKOPy4QScyIHIBw&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=986&dpr=1 and the town Stavanger, let me know! :-)
I'll fill in the details in the doc.
-
I love the GoogleDoc, as I would like to do more traveling (hopefully, on the cheap!) in the next few years.
It would be helpful to me to know if potential hosts have pets (I am allergic to cats) and if they smoke (I can't handle cigarette smoke, especially). If that info were on the GoogleDoc, it would mean fewer potentially awkward questions down the road.
Thanks.

Thanks for starting to group, Russ. Was going to do it depending on interest but I'm just too slow on the forums!
-
I have a spare bedroom in Anchorage. The upcoming winter may put a damper on potential visitors. Ill add it to the list when I get home and have an unfiltered internet connection.
-
I have a swanky place in Columbus with couches for an army. (seriously, we own too many couches. Too bad they're so heavy, or we could easily own fewer couches.) AirMnM!
-
This is trivial, but shouldn't our virtual entity be AirMMM? The "Air" alone would be a nod to that other entity. What exactly would the "MnM" be? "Mr.-n-Mustache"?
More to the point:
I will consult with the lady about joining this AirMxM. I'm sure some mustachians would be interested in visiting Santa Cruz, CA. And she has been talking about a road trip of some kind next summer during her (awesome teacher's) vacation.
Update: We downsized to a studio and no longer have room to host. However, we are still near Santa Cruz so say hello if you're ever around!
-

I like AirMnM. Not only does it remind me of chocolate, but it still works if you think about it - Air Money & Mustache sounds way better and makes way more sense than Air Mr Money Mustache.
-
I've been a couchsurfer for a few years now. We were able to stay with people in India, Colombia, Mexico and all over the States. this AirM&M would just be a subset of the visitors I get and host. but you guys would be the cream of the crop when it comes to frugality. Count me in. Got a large two flat in Chicago's Bucktown/Wicker Park if anyone's visiting.
-
My wife and I were talking about a cross country trip next summer. We'd LOVE to make it a Nationwide Mustachian Tour!
Maybe between now and then we can line up some destinations! We have a family of 5 but we'll be traveling in a van with our tent so we'll probably mainly be looking for places to park for the night and access to a shower.
Our plan is to drive from Boston to Seattle via a northern route and back via a more southern route. We'll have 9 days to get there 5 days in Washington and 9 days to get back.
Also we can also host. We're 20 minutes north of Boston. Biking distance to downtown Lowell and from public transportation into Boston.
-

I am very sad I lost track of this thread, haha. Now I've figured out how to find replies to my posts! Next time, my mustachian friend, and thanks for the offer.
-
Sure. Open offer for any Mustachian visiting Vegas. :)
-
That reminds me, I'm thinking of moving to Red Rock for the winter. Meet up for some board games? I'll be missing my friend's Dominion set from KY.

Cool, sounds great. We have base set, seaside, intrigue, and prosperity.
Though lately we've been playing a ton more of cards against humanity.

Hah, ya that's always a fun time. I'll send ya a PM when I'm in the area.
-
Bump! No chance there's somebody in Rome, is there?
I don't need a place to stay (probably) but would love some tips about what to see and what to skip for a trip in May.
-
We should make a guide to aggregate all the cool things like the SIM cutter exchange and couchsurfing group that this community has - I forgot the couchsurfing group even existed. It'd be like a meta-cool-resource.

Cards against humanity...fun!! I'll definitely keep the spreadsheet in mind. One of the things the SO was talking about after we catch FIRE was spending 6 months traveling per year, researching an area, getting a house, living in it/fixing it up, and renting it out after we came back home. Then we thought that we should make sure each house has a cottage in the back that we can stay in if we want. This idea seems more realistic and fun, though. Although, without renters, we could potentially add some locations to the list for Mustachians. How cool would that be?
-

That is VERY generous and I will have to keep that in mind!
-
This is my new favourite thread. You guys are amazing!
My current lodgings are the perfect place for mustachians that want to practice outrageous optimism! It has snow 8 months out of the year.... BUT is very friendly and easy to walk from place to place. Keep it in mind, and I'll add myself to the spreadsheet.
It could come in handy if you were driving across Canada.

Is anyone in Paris that can lend me a couch in May, perhaps? I have a conference there.
-
This is awesome!
I love hosting guests.
I'm in the mountains in Kentucky. Currently have 2 guests rooms, a queen and a single. Moving in September and then will only have a couch and floor. No night life. Not much to do unless you like to hike and soak up the mountains (what could be better?). Lots of atv trails and horse trails. Coal history. Local music, art and craft if the timing is right.
Might seriously consider this forum for my next vacation (in a year or two). I'm a textile artist and could trade a super cool quilt or project for a couch and a shower!
Where in KY? I might be there for a few months this coming spring.
-
I love this idea. I have a couch in Orlando, FL that I would be able to house someone on for a few days. I'm also looking for a place in San Fran in late July if anyone has a couch/room available.
-
I love this!!! We are located in the southern part of New Jersey a 10 minute train ride from Philadelphia.
If anyone is in the area let me know!
-
I really like this. I added my place to the table. Its an apartment/MIL suite attached to my house that I use for guests. I'm thinking about listing it on Airbnb, but I'm still getting situated as I bought this place a
few months nearly a year ago.
-
I would house swap with you for a week, we are in Boston and the GF and I have been talking about a montreal trip!
-
My husband and myself are looking for a room in Colorado in mid August. We are flying into Denver and going to a show at Red Rock so will need to stay in that area for a night or two. After that, we are open to the where are adventures might take us!
We be happy to trade for services (my husband is super handy) or cash. We live in Louisville, Ky if anyone is interested in swapping.
-
Added couch info in Portlandia. Very cool. Wish I had seen this, we'll be in Montreal
and Toronto in a few weeks... doing Airbnb.
-
If anyone is heading south.......WAY south........I can offer a bed in New Zealand.
-
I'm Australia (Victoria) on the Great Ocean Road.
Happy to give up a room for free and cook for you.
Will be traveling next year around the world.
-
Looking for couchsurfing around Pasadena, CA for week of 08/01 if anyone is offering! :)
-
Such a cool idea. I'm currently in Halifax, but moving back to my homeland in Ontario in September. Anyone with a place on the way between those two places if I needed a place to rest my head?
-
We are just outside of Asheville, NC. The leaves will soon start to change colors and we will get inundated with folks driving up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway. Close to lots of hiking areas. If any of them are fellow Mustachians we have an unoccupied upstairs with two bedrooms and two baths.
-
I think it is a great idea - just comes down to the trust issue.
I second that. The nice benefit to AirBnB is that there is a company behind the system that will help you out if things go wrong. Personally, I've never had any problems, but there is an inherent risk in staying with people you don't know (and sometimes even with people you do know - ugh, my step-sister keeps a dirty home) even if they have a similar philosophy.
-
Heh. I won't stay in my sister's house. Ever.
And we're at least temporarily wary of houseguests, at least for a good while. Still traumatized (and our poor cat more so) from having a loud, extroverted campaign working living with us for the last 33 days. Not that I was counting...
-
Looking for a place to stay in the San Mateo/San Francisco area in August or September of this year for 5-7 days.
2 adults and 1 kid (5 adults if you have room). Non-smoker, no pets.
Thanks!
-
Bump! Anyone passing through Yellowstone, the Tetons, or Jackson Hole, should swing by. Love this idea.
-
We're a little ways outside Vancouver, easy transit access. Extra room with queen bed, couches aplenty, dogs. Summer (read: July & August) are phenomenal here.
-
I've got a comfy futon available right across the river from NYC in New Jersey if anyone is passing by and needs a place to stay! Quick $3 bus ride into Manhattan.
Also looking for a place to stay in San Diego from June 12-15, if anyone has a place they can offer!
-
I suggest joining couchsurfing.org if you haven't yet done so. It seems like just what you're looking for. We've hosted a bunch of couchsurfers (mostly pre-kids) and had entirely positive experiences.
-
Now I want to go to Vegas for the car ride!
I stay in an off-strip hotel that has a free airport shuttle, and pay with points garnered by credit card churning. At the end of the trip I'm only out what I pay for tips, when it comes to transit and accommodations.
It would be worthwhile to check in on fellow Mustachians and meet for lunch. Except most of us aren't into restaurants, so we'd end up chilling in a park and sharing almonds or trail mix.
-

June has been pretty good too.
We've started bike touring on the cheap.

Mods - would it be worth adding a little note and a link to the spreadsheet to the first post so people don't miss it?
Has anyone actually AirMnM-ed yet?

Done.
I have given some rides to/from Vegas airport, and met up with multiple people passing through, and am planning on staying with a Mustachian in Germany who invited me via PM after seeing we'd be there in October. Not actually used the spreadsheet though, no.
-
I'm hoping to start hosting a lot more when I'm in a bit more of a tourist attraction than London. And maybe to start staying with others as well. I did find warmshowers.org (http://warmshowers.org) through these forums too, which is really similar.
Hopefully someday it's enough of a resource to sticky or to make a map in addition to a spreadsheet.
-
If anyone lives in SLC, UT and wants to host 4 of us in July, let me know! Happy to also just hang out doing local activities (kid friendly) as we do have hotels booked too :)

Yeah, me & the Ms. were some of those MnMers that got a ride from and hung with Rebs in Vegas. I'd definitely take a look at the spreadsheet again next time I'm traveling.

I think it's a cool idea! Unfortunately as I don't have my own place, I wouldn't be able to offer a room. Though, I'm willing to do grocery shopping and cooking in return for an AirMnM room. ;)
Me too, I'm renting a room in a house and I live in a part of the country hardly anyone seems to want to visit, The Midwest. But yes, happy to babysit, cook, do laundry, etc. in exchange for a room.
-
I live in Greenwood, SC right now. I have a couch available if anyone is in the area. (I also have a beloved cat, who will run and hide when he sees there are strangers in his domain)
-
Heading on an American trip at the end of summer this year, hope to take advantage of this a little - hopefully can repay people.
-
Live in a northern suburb of Denver. Good jumping off point for day-trips to Denver, Boulder, Golden, and the mountains (including Rocky Mountain National Park). My family is happy to host 2 adults on a queen bed and unlimited mini-mustaches on sleeping bags on the floor for up to 2 days. -Best wishes, Ap.
-
You may want to check out www.servas.org and https://usservas.org/, the oldest hospitality network.
We are members, mostly as hosts but also as travellers, since more than 30 years.
-
I think this is a great idea. I keep thinking how does this become standardized here in US. I'd happily share my home with like minded people.
I've thought of having cells of 5-10 people and then branching out to other cells. It's not like I want to travel a lot, but I don't want to be taken advantage of either. For it to work, it's got to be reciprocal.
It would mean much more to me to connect with someone/family and stay for free than a service like Airbnb. Part of travel is about learning another culture and what better way than staying with a family.
Airbnb is having you post picture, phone # and FB page. It's a good idea.
-
This topic makes me wish I lived in a place people actually wanted to visit... lol
-
Have a couch in Ann Arbor if anyone is passing through.
-
Very late to the party. I just found out about this at Camp Mustache and added my humble Seattle abode.
-
Somewhat new to the forums, but if anyone is in the Phx area traveling for our 115 degree weather, we have plenty of room in Gilbert.
-
We got a couch in Central Germany available on most weekends. Town is "Siegen", which is great for outdoor activities and about an hour from Cologne, Frankfurt or Duesseldorf.

Are you going to combine this with your relocation thread so that someone could travel around the country (and world) looking for a new place to hang his hat, while staying for free with friendly mustachians? A man can dream..

A) I love the fact that you know my other plans.
B) Not enough data to make it useful.
C) Yes, the stuff I'm thinking of is the world.
D) Possible integration with AirMNM thread.

Well they are always going to different countries, depending where they are at the time, that might not be a problem (legally)?

At Camp Mustache this year, there was a fair amount of discussion around this concept - house swapping, or couch surfing with other MMMers. This thread and associated spreadsheet definitely show there's some interest in the idea. Have many people successfully negotiated a trade?
I thought about putting a bit of effort into creating a minimum-viable-product website that would basically act as a couchsurfing/AirMnM directory but for Mustachians, but I am not entirely sure if there's enough demand to warrant the effort. Improvements over the spreadsheet would probably include a map, and searchable results.
I think there may be a variety of people who have an extra room, couch, or even driveway to park an RV, who wouldn't mind meeting traveling mustachians and hosting them, what do you all think?

@ Kudy
I think thats a cool idea. The spreadsheets are a bit challenging to navigate. A map function would be great. I also think you should be compensated for your time and effort.
Maybe start a gofundme or something similar for the idea and see how interested people on this forum really are in the idea?
Just my thoughts.

How about turning the spreadsheet directly into a map? That could be a low effort, high impact solution, although not as good as a full solution. For example, see http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/7-ways-to-make-a-google-map-using-google-spreadsheet-data/
Otherwise, we could see what other niche couch surfing sites do. For example, https://warmshowers.org (biking), https://pasportaservo.org (Esperanto), or http://motostays.com (motorcycles, via a Google search). BeWelcome, a couch surfing-like site has their source code available: https://github.com/BeWelcome/rox

I just found this thread for the first time -- what a great idea!! Thank you for your efforts to get it going again Kudy. Count me in. We are gonzo travelers and would love to exchange places with other mustachians.

Ah! I have been thinking we should start something like this. I have also thought/looked for cheap lots and small pieces of land to take an rv or just a tent to that are neat and close to other sites but too far to drive from the house; sort of an alternative cheap vacation home idea at 1/100 the cost! If I ever get one or multiple ones Ill add. Don't think we are quite ready in our home for this, unless someone has an rv/tent.
Also, a little bummed that we don't live in a more tourist/fun place but remembered we are 5 minutes to a huge lake and large public forest, 30 minutes to several national forest, 15 minutes to another lake, 40 minutes to the mountains, and this..
http://www.dnr.sc.gov/news/yr2012/dec20/dec20_natgeo.html
also <4 hours to the beach, 10 minutes to a major interstate, close to a public university with lots of events. A little reflection can remind one of how good you have it.

I drove a car through the horse pasture (very lazy) but was still nice. The dirt roads just keep going...

Bumping this thread because it is such a good idea.
Still waiting to give someone a place to stay who is coming through Ann Arbor, MI.
-
I keep forgetting to check this thread (or sure who's active). We were in Ann Arbor last fall, should have taken you up on the offer

I am willing to exchange vacation time in a studio in Orange County, CA. You'd just have to be ok living with a cat while you stay there haha.

Is this still a thing people are doing? I travel for continuing education classes (i'm a massage therapist) and I also have extra space in my house that could hold maybe 3 people depending on their accomodation needs. I live in Woodbridge, VA, not far from DC and all its glory. "glory"

Is this still a thing? I'm traveling by train from Dublin > Shanghai next month and still looking for housing in a few cities. I'm recording a podcast about money along the way. Places I'm looking for hosting still:
- Dublin, Ireland - August 31 - Sep 4 (or any part of that)
- Beijing and Shanghai- September 18-24th (or any part of that)
- Seoul, South Korea - September 26th
I am experienced couchsurfer - tiny, able to fit in the smallest spaces, an experienced (former professional) vegan cook, will do dishes. Not allergic to anything. Don't drink or smoke. Have many couchsurfing references, have been active in that community since 2006.

Hey all, I'm located in Toronto, we have a airbnb style set up in our basement, can accommodate 5+ people. Also would have access to our car to borrow (Don't face punch me, it is a Fit). And some bikes and a kiddo bike trailer! We live within biking distance to downtown Toronto via mostly trails.
We are pet friendly, but we also have two cats.
I would be interested in a vacation swap, or you could just come and cook for me.
May also be looking for a house sitter for a while (TBC)...if anyone is thinking of coming to TO in the next few months let me know!
No longer live in Toronto. I'll repost if new living situation/city works for AirMnM :).

I'm driving from Boston to Crested Butte in mid October. looking for mustachian places to stay along the way. I'd be happy to exchange for you crashing in my study in Crested Butte sometime, which is pretty terrific. (see my air bnb listing for "the blue house") Looking for spots in Western NY, Ohio, chicago, nebraska.

I can highly recommend www.servas.org for hospitality and travelling.
We are members for more than 35 years now.
There are some low key requirements to make sure you know the rules but you will meet great people.
Some might even qualify as MMM unknowingly :-)
Added: Sorry, posted about Servas last year already. Anyhow, its great!

Looking for a place to stay in Hawaii April 26 - May 2 this year. If anyone has something available let me know! (even if it's just for some of those dates)
I updated the spreadsheet in the first post with my details ( I can cook, clean, etc.)
I plan to do some fly fishing/beachgoing around Honolulu, and would love to visit one of the other islands too, like maybe some camping on Kauai (which of course I wouldn't need accomodations for....but if you have recommendations for that let me know.)
Also I'm going to look into Servas...thanks for the info chrisgermany!

This is a cool idea. I'm in Montreal, I have two single mattresses that can be deployed in my living room, for up to a week. I'm on couchsurfing too, pm me for profile.

That sounds like a great idea. However, instead of just making it so you "swap" with another person, make it so that if you lend a room to someone, you "earn" a point that you can redeem for another open room of similar size/specs. Everyone obviously has to start with some free ones.
Why do this? Simple. Because it eliminates the need to find someone in the exact area you want to go that wants to go exactly to your area at the exact same time.
-
I belong to a time bank in my area that operates in something like a "point" fashion as mentioned above. The basic concept is that one hour of a person's time is equal to one hour or any other person's time. So if it takes a person 2 hours to drive another member to the airport, let's say, the driving member gets to post 2 hrs. time bank credit to his account. Then when the driver needs something, he can post a request for any other member to fulfill, using his accumulated time bank credits. The more members participating, of course, the better and more useful the organization becomes.

Saw this in someone's journal, love the idea. I'm going to add my place in Ottawa to the spreadsheet.
-
Just updated our listing as we've sold our house in Edmonton Alberta Canada and will be ready for mustachian guests in our new place in Victoria BC starting January 2019.

I am looking for a vacation housing swap for a week or 2 this summer because I am starting a remote job where I can work anywhere in the US. I posted in the AirMnM spreadsheet. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area and looking to swap someplace with culture and/or nature that's walkable.

What a great idea, posting to follow.

It's been over a year since someone posted here, but why not..... The Pandemic is becoming less and less of a concern for those able to be vaccinated. My place is available in Lexington, KY. Anytime after May 1.
I typically lend myself to Beach Vacations, but am much more open minded currently. It seems everyone is past due for a vacation currently, and if you look at current prices, most people could care less about how much money they have to spend!
-
Bumping this thread.
I am about one month into a 6 - 12 month Nomad Experiment. I had planned to spend most of the summer in SW Colorado, but that might change. If I do end up traveling outside of Colorado much, I'd be interested in staying with mustachians. Not sure, at this point, how current the info on the spreadsheet is.....

I just added myself to the spreadsheet. I'm with @NinetyFour that perhaps it needs an update since a good chunk of this thread is from 8 years ago. I noticed it got sorted alphabetically by location, which seems to have messed up the 'offering places' and 'looking for places' organization of the list, so it takes a little bit of thinking to figure out who's looking for what. Maybe if each row of the spreadsheet had a color fill (green and yellow?) indicator for offering vs looking, or an added column specifically saying whether the person is offering or looking?
My wife and I are in Blacksburg, VA--- home of Virginia Tech, the Appalachian Trail, and the New River. Lots of university and nature related things to do. We have two big dogs, an extra bedroom, a house in the woods at town limits, and a canoe you can borrow. Also hoping someone might host us as we travel sometime.

Posting so I can find this again. Great idea!
