The Rational Optimist
« on: November 02, 2014, 12:58:40 PM »
I just finished reading the Ration Optimist and I cannot stop thinking of what a good book it is. It is the type of book that gives you the warm and fuzzies not only how things were in the past but where we as a society and as a species are heading in the future.

The big thing the book left me with was just how good our "standard" of living is. How even those in the "lower class" can afford to have the worlds information at their fingertips, air conditioning, and a vehicle to take them just about any where they want to go. The best part is it will only get better for every one, no matter who you are or where you live.

Enough of my rambling though...

What do you all think about it?

Absolutely phenomenal book, I really enjoyed reading it. The part that got me was the argument that if you want people to care about the environment, just get more people part of the middle class. By extension, environmental concerns might be mitigated as more and more societies have economic stability, which in turn motivates them to maintain their land.
