Title: Economics Explained (Canadian version)
Post by: Bidonet on October 15, 2013, 01:18:41 PM
Hi,

I was looking forward, as recommended by MMM himself, to read Economics Explained by Robert Heilbroner and Lester Thurow http://www.amazon.ca/Economics-Explained-Everything-About-Economy/dp/0684846411/ (http://www.amazon.ca/Economics-Explained-Everything-About-Economy/dp/0684846411/). However, since I am a Canadian, I was wondering if this book would really be helpful or is it targeted mainly for a US audience?

Would you have any suggestion for Economics as a Canadian? I am a beginner so nothing too complicated would be nice. I also saw a this book at the book store that caught my attention: "The Economics Book, big ideas simply explained" http://www.amazon.ca/Economics-Book-Dorling-Kindersley/dp/0756698278/ (http://www.amazon.ca/Economics-Book-Dorling-Kindersley/dp/0756698278/). Is it any good?

Thanks for your help.

I haven't read these books, but the principles of economics (as opposed to personal finance) should be non-specific to countries.  If you were looking for something on investment or personal finance you should hold out for something specific to Canada, but I suspect these could be interesting to anyone.

No, that's probably a terrible choice. DK writes a bunch of picture books about things like Legos. Click on the author's link to see. You could do much better.

The Wealthy Barber is personal finance, not sure if that is what you're looking for (it's Canadian).

Not sure quite what it is you're trying to learn. Perhaps a first year university book...?
