One Year to An Organised Financial Life - Regina Leeds
« on: January 09, 2016, 02:30:41 AM »
i was wondering what the book had to say vs what the forum folks and MMM have to say, esp the pithy Zero to Hero article.

This is the order provided in the book :

Jan - clear out unwanted stuff, set up a financial file system
Feb - assess finances : determine income and fixed expenses, variable expenses, and think of how to save
Mar - sort out tax related matters
Apr - explore ways to reduce expenditure, new ways to earn money, create a budget that works, reduce big and small expenses, find the right bank and investment opportunities
May - visualise your dream life, lower cost of credit, reduce credit debt
Jun - find out how much you need to save for the future
Jul - create a will, set beneficieries
Aug - decide if there is a need to downsize, clear the clutter, refinance as necessary
Sep - oct, examine medical insurance, avoid travel and cancer only insurance, insurance from credit card companies, buy auto insurance
Nov/Dec - create a realistic holiday budget, reduce restaurant meals

Here's my alternative version after reading MMM and fora :

Jan - assess finances : determine income and fixed expenses, variable expenses. reduce/remove big discretionary expenses and start paying down most expensive debt. determine net worth.
Feb - lower cost of credit/refinance and work out a budget
Mar - lower or eliminate fixed costs : rent / insurance / tv and cable / car / cell phone service
Apr - sort out taxes and research investment allocations
May - lower or eliminate variable costs : groceries / shopping / restaurant meals
Jun -  find the right bank, consolidate investment accounts, maximise non-taxable accounts
Jul -  downsize / declutter / start exercising more, join No Buy July challenge
Aug - visualise dream life, set goals, create a will, set beneficieries, join August August challenge
Sep - determine monthly expenses of dream life, rebalance to maintain investment allocation, join Savetember challenge
Oct - use cfiresim/simulation tools to determine FI date , join Stockober challenge
Nov - have a mustachian holiday with budget airlines and airbnb, join Nospendber challenge
Dec - join Despendber challenge, calculate the year's net savings rate, new net worth, and smile.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
