The wikipedia entry gives him probable credit for the first publication of a pesto recipe in the US but that doesn't do justice to the books. Unprejudiced Palate is still big with foodies but I prefer Lean Years, Happy Years. It pretty well sums up his ethos and the book itself is largely a reflection on the rewards of purposeful work ethic in the garden and home. Although he did offer a few anti-technology rants I think this community would enjoy most of his books and I'm sort of surprised no one has a thread for this guy already.
