"The Nest" by Cynthia Sweeney (Fiction)
« on: July 26, 2016, 01:33:48 AM »
Wow, I'm amazed that I am the first person posting about this book here.  The premise of the story is that a guy leaves a sizable inheritance for his four middle-aged kids, all of whom are (naturally) messed up (both emotionally and financially).  Two are spending their shares of the money before they have it, with predictably horrible results.  One is completely irresponsible (leading to the event at the beginning of the book that causes the shares of all his siblings to become endangered), while the fourth is kind of just drifting through life.  All around a good story, and a good cautionary tale about how money (especially the expectation of unearned money) can affect (and often ruin) relationships, not to mention killing a sense of personal responsibility or motivation.  Highly recommend.
