This is why we can't have nice things
« on: April 24, 2019, 06:51:35 AM »
My two year old took a rock and used it to "draw circles" all over my husband's car.

"Do you think it will buff out?"
"Maybe.  I'll try, but it's not worth spending money to fix."
"What about the resale value?"
"It's a 2005.  What resale value?"
"Will your coworkers make fun of your scribble car?"
"I already drive the shittiest car on the lot.  Who cares?"

So glad we don't drive a shiny new car!!!

Imagine the anguish if that was a lease.  A lease that was almost up.

Great story.  Care to share a picture?  I'd love to have one handy.

This cracks me up!!   My friend's son (about 4 at the time) wanted to be a firefighter (he is now a police officer).  They took him to a kid's day at the nearby firehall.  He loved it.  Wore his little firefighter hat everywhere.

Anyhow, his dad bought a brand new Jeep Cherokee, first new vehicle he had ever purchased.  Well, one day his son took a rock and drew lines and the number 65 on the doors to make it look like a fire truck.

They laughed and cried and poor kid didn't know what to think.  I think of it every time I see a bright shiny red truck!  lol

I have a couple of pre-teens. I still find little stars or circles all over our stuff.

I had patted myself on the back for getting through the toddler/preschool years without the kids ever coloring on the walls.

My kids wrote all over their rooms with pencil in early elementary school.

When I found it and got mad they were totally confused and just calmly told me that pencil erases.

Spoiler alert: it didn't erase. We had to repaint.

I should explain this to my kids before I have to repaint too!

Also beware of markers or pens in the backseat.  I used to let my kids color while I was driving...and then a 4-year-old decided to write her name on the back of the drivers' seat.

The same week, she also wrote her name in orange permanent marker all over her white furniture.    She signed a few other things too.

I gave her a pad of paper and made her write her name on the paper 1000 times.  That stopped the urge to practice everywhere.  I also hid all the markers and pens.

When my son was 2 he very proudly led me to his art project, which was a giant crayon drawing covering about half the lower wall in our hall. He was dismayed when he had to clean it until all traces were gone.

And we have banned ink of all kinds in the back seat of the cars.

I have to say, magic erasers, however, have made my kids lives and art cleanups very much easier than mine. :-)

Our son along with the neighbors girls did something similar to our truck. It was old because that’s all we could afford at the time. Same kid drew on wall and living room furniture. That was also old.
