I have two in college (ages almost 21 and almost 20) and 7 still at home (ages 16, 15, 12, 10, 8, 4, 2). I've been a SAHmom since a month before the first was born. So the self care if definitely necessary!
My faves:
-Bath - lock the door, turn on the fan - quiet!
-Yummy snack that I don't have to share : )
-Cup of tea or hot cocoa - even better when combined with a bath
-Date with DH
-Dinner out - no cooking, no clean up
-Reading
-Monthly phone call to my best friend
-Watching a movie or show after kids are in bed
-Sleeping in on a weekend day
-A day or part of a day to do as I please
-Taking care of a project so it's off the to do list

Ooo dates! And getting stuff crossed off the To Do list! So true!

And now let me bow down in awe because one kid is kicking my butt and you have many more than one!!! Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

The first two were tough for me! Everything was new - even though I babysat from the time I was 13. There were no helpers, etc.
I remember having a mom of 8 (an acquaintance) stop me when I had 4 under 5 and tell me that she remembered how hard that was. I thought she was nuts! Now I get it. Nine is actually easier than 1-4 esp when they are all young.
Hang in there. It does get easier. But enjoy it too - it goes oh so fast. I feel like I blinked and now my older two live mostly on their own (during college - home on vacations only). I miss the days when everyone was home!

Getting time for one of *my* projects (as opposed to a baby-related task or project), like working on my garden.

Bike ride without kids
Shopping (even if it's just grocery) by myself
Swimming without kids or anyone else in tow

I agree with doing a project just for you. Mine's sewing at the moment, and the sound of the sewing machine and mental quiet is amazing.

Sewing is also better with a cup of tea or hot chocolate, much like the bath ;)

Building on the "walk" idea that's in your list, I'd see if there are free or inexpensive guided walks in your area offered by your local library, parks district, or historical society.  I'm not a parent myself, but my friends who are seem to thrive on me-time activities where they can learn something in the company of other adults.
