I just informed the 8yo and 10yo there would be no Easter Egg hunt tomorrow. Their response? "Will we still get candy?" When I told them they'd get some from their grandparents, they simply shrugged and said, "I'm okay with that." No big easter egg hunt or baskets this year. They'll each get $15 from us to spend/save as they see fit and that'll be the end of it. Pretty sure their spendy grandparents will have ginormous easter baskets/gifts for them.
And, here are the results (drumroll, please) (same for each kid):
From Spendy Grandparents: 1 16 oz. solid Neuhaus Chocolate Easter Bunny, 1 Neuhaus chocolate easter bunny lollipop made of chocolate, some other stuff in their gift bags I haven't seen yet. Estimated Retail Value of just these two chocolate items: About $45.
From Aunt/Uncle: 2 plastic eggs with candy in them, a package of gum balls and a Rubik's cube. (Yay, much better.)
We gave each kid $15 in a plastic easter egg, wrapped in a gift bag, and gave each of our nieces (ages 3 and newborn) a $5 bill inside a plastic easter egg, wrapped up in tissue paper. All plastic eggs were ones we've had since the kids were 3 and 1. We haven't purchased easter eggs since then, we just keep reusing the same ones over and over. The gift bags were ones I had in my gift wrap stash and are back there now. The tissue paper was from the gift wrap stash and is now in the trash. (I don't think it's recyclable.)
They were both pleased as punch to get cash, chocolate and the rubik's cube. We spent $40 from our gift fund. In year's past, with all of the Easter eggs, baskets, candy, etc. we would easily have spent over $100. So, much improved this year.
And, yesterday we donated 4 garbage bags full of clothes, sheets, and household items to a charitable organization. All in all, a decent weekend.
