Thredup - Quality used kids clothing for cheap
« on: December 25, 2014, 10:55:43 PM »
LOVE this site. We've been buying kids clothing here for over a year.  Used "nicer" clothing - nothing with stains, rips etc.  Lots of new with tags stuff available too.  When my girl outgrows it, I ship it back (free) and they keep some of it for a credit, which we then turn around and buy bigger clothes. I love recycling clothing this way!  Customer service is top notch too - only once did we receive an item not in the condition described and they promptly issued a credit for the full purchase price. Women's clothing too - I've got a couple of things for myself as well.

http://www.thredup.com/r/5J4JXT if you've never used before - $10 promo credit for both of us

I like ThredUp too, although it seems a bit more picked over when I shop for little boy clothes. It's the same situation at the thrift stores, too. I think in general people buy their little girls more clothes because of cultural cues, so there are more to donate and they are less worn by the time the girls outgrow them.

I have made decent return selling good condition hand-me-downs on ThredUp. One time there was a delay in processing my bag and they automatically gave me a $40 credit because of the delay. I know the clothes I sent would not have made that much.

I have not tried the grown-up side of ThredUp - I'll have to check it out.

Does anyone know a good source to find used little boy pajamas? I don't see them on ThredUp. At the Goodwills in my city they separate the pj tops and bottoms when sorting and I have never been to find a matching set. Also they tend to be very worn by the time they get to Goodwill. I don't have time to go to garage sales. I have been buying pj's at Costco, but am hoping for a cheaper source.

I LOVE Thredup. I buy the majority of both my kids clothes and my own on that site. I've never sold anything back though - by the time we're done with clothes they tend to be really worn out.

Yeah I know what you mean the girls vs boys clothing. I tried to pick up some things for a family member and was surprised at the difference compared to the little girls clothes!

Not sure about good PJ options. We've received many as gifts. Otherwise Costco or Amazon usually. Target.

So far I think I've only bought a couple of things for myself there, don't believe I have sent them anything. Truthfully though if I had clothing to get rid of I would donate or consider sending to thredup anyway, the hassle of finding the "best price" isn't worth it to me in this situation. But good to know.

It's time to get the 2 year old some long(er) pants since the old stuff looks more like capris.  I checked out thredup, but it looks 3x-10x more expensive than our thrift store (before considering they have half off sales frequently and $5 off $25 all the time).  Since I don't know enough (or care enough!) about the name brands, I'll stick with my local thrift store for now.  But it looks like a good concept if you really want a particular style or brand or color.
