Kids running own business
« on: May 09, 2015, 07:23:40 AM »
My 8 year old daughter is running a secret cafe out of her dad's house every other Saturday.  We get free day old pastries from a food reclamation project, serve coffee and fresh apple juice. Everything is a dollar. We send out an invite on FB and it's a very social event.  She has to pay her employee and vendors.  We then require her to put some in savings.

It's fun for her.  She likes to get dressed up for it too.

Does anyone else do something similar to this?

Sounds nice.  We have a neighbor whose kid sometimes does something a bit like this, though I am not sure of details.  As long as everyone knows what's going on, seems like a good set up.  I wouldn't want to fool with inviting people into my home, personally, but that's me.

I do hire neighborhood kids as dogsitters when I can, helps me and work for them.  I target ages a bit older than your daughter, but with parental help and a neighbor (i.e. me) willing to work along on the hiring, I think this could work even younger for some pet- or housesitting responsibilities (watering plants, turning lights on and off, fetching the mail).  I figure they've got to learn (and earn) somewhere.

I work with many start ups, but today a local 12 year ld has commissioned us to do work on their business. He codes and builds websites....

Imagine getting a 10 year head start on college kids.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
