Mustachian shows/sites/books for teens
« on: March 02, 2017, 09:49:30 AM »
I have two kids, 14 and 12 years old. I'd like to help them learn Mustachian money habits -- especially the 14-year-old, whose natural tendency is to spend money as soon as he gets it. Sadly, especially at this age, parental advice doesn't have much of an effect.

So I'm looking for some sort of show/website/book that might spark some thought about the value of saving, the issues with reflexive consumption, etc. It should be something relatively self-contained -- for example, I wouldn't just point them to the MMM blog or forum as that's not quite pre-digested enough for these purposes. Any recommendations of good starting points for a teen's Mustachian journey? Or if there's already a thread on this that I've missed, please feel free to point me in that direction.

PBS is your friend!

Biz Kids is my absolute favorite: http://bizkids.com/show

The Merchants of Cool was a great Frontline Doc: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/cool/

Your Life, Your Money :http://www.pbs.org/your-life-your-money/

I think the key to using all of these resources is to do it together and be on hand for discussion, questions, and engagement.

Edit: In The Mix looks great too! http://www.pbs.org/inthemix/shows/show_money.html

Thanks for the excellent suggestions! And we've just finished watching our latest "family show" (The Office) and are looking for something new to watch together. So this could be the perfect opportunity.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
