Title: diapers cost about $21/month for a 5 month old
Post by: clarkfan1979 on October 11, 2017, 11:07:06 AM
I had to buy our first box of diapers for our 5 month old. We had many diapers from our baby shower that got us to this point. We actually have 2 boxes of size 3 left from the baby shower but our baby is still wearing size 2.

I bought a box of huggies size 2 at Costco on sale for 28.99.

he goes through about 4 diapers/day.

This comes out to be $21/month for diapers and another $3.50/month for wipes.

I was told by my non-MMM peers to budget $20/week for diapers. However, $20/month seems more accurate.

Where we live it was always about $30-40.  $30 for the older one, $40 by the time #2 came around.

It didn't matter the age of the kid.  As they got bigger, frequency of changes went down but cost per diaper went up.  Sales, costco, online, all about $30-$40/month.

Only 4 a day for a 5 mo?  That seems unusually low.  Our daycare changes him 5-6 times in a day - and we'll change him once in the morning and 1-2 times in the evening as well.  I believe they're required by regulations or standards to change him every 2 hours at a minimum.  He's gotten bad diaper rash since going to daycare so more frequent changes are better for him anyways.

That said, $20/week is high.  I buy online from Amazon.  With subscribe and save stacking to get 20% off, and camelcamelcamel alerts for price drops, I've paid 9 cents to 18 cents a diaper.  You can also do drugstore coupon games for some good deals if you're willing to switch brands.  After trying some out we've settled on one that works for us, but that limits the drugstore deals.

Yes, 4 diapers a day seems really low.

Yes, 4 diapers/day is low. He sleeps 9-11 hours at night. He falls asleep around 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and wakes up around 6:30 a.m. I typically change him around 7:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. No problems with diaper rash. don't even use the cream. Some days it is 5 diapers, but never 3. As a result, I will say 4.5 diapers/day on average.
