Good strategy. Maybe try giving experiences (zoo, rock climbing tickets), if you think cash is to in your face for some families.

This- I'm big on giving restaurant gift cards, Zoo tickets, or other experiential presents instead of physical items.
I have never met a kid (or parents) that didn't love getting a gift card to a local ice cream parlor. Who doesn't love to go out for ice cream?
Movie gift certificates are another one I love. You can even put them in a paper popcorn tub with one of those theatre sized box of candy from Walgreens.
