As someone who struggled (multiple IVFs) to become pregnant and have one kid (and would have like to have a second, but no luck), and who has friends (a few IRL, more on the internet) who've become parents thanks to the generosity of surrogates, I am certainly grateful that this option exists and that there are people willing to serve as surrogates to allow people to become parents.
Once I got pregnant, I had a blissfully straightfoward pregnancy and a healthy kid. Though serving as a surrogate might be something I'd want to do in order to help a person become a parent, no way in heck would I do it. I cannot imagine carrying and birthing a child and then being able to allow another person to take over the role of mothering it, nor would I be willing to take on the health risks, hassle, or to explain to my family (including my own kid) what I was doing. That's regardless of the pricetag attached to the service, honestly ... I just wouldn't be able to, or want to.
